I’ve noticed that Fixed and Eight Crazy Nights have a lot in common, both are beautifully animated, both are vulgar, and both have a very divisive reception online.

Honestly I’m on the side that liked it, it’s not a masterpiece but I found it to be a charming goofy movie for what it was. It’s pretty nice to see more 2D animated movies with smooth and expressive animation similar to The Day the Earth Blew Up. I can understand why raunchy and vulgar humor isn’t for everyone but honestly I found it pretty funny, humor after all is subjective, and there’s more to judge about the film than it’s humor alone. I can also relate to the main dog character, the Sex House scene and the way he prepared to have sex with Molasses legit reminds me of how I go with my college sex life and when I first went to a party, fucking sex talk is harder than it sounds.

Also the "if you like the movie your a zoophile" argument is retarded, literally sounds like something you’d hear on Twitter, and you /co/mos are the same people who goon to cartoon children so it’s funny how you’d be calling us degenerates.

Anon there's a difference between shit in this and shit like Aeon Flux, this humor kinda doesn't work when it comes to adult animation because normie movie goers will look and go "oh it's like that one show I saw on TV" (parents are already getting it confused for a G rated movie and have accidentally played it for their families and having to quickly turn it off) and will go see something that's more unique. I thought it was mid. I like raunchy humor like Sausage Party and Big Mouth, but Fixed was trying to hard at points, like when they escaped the pound. I think it really fell off after the Dog Show. I didn't like Honey coming to this huge epiphany that she didn't want to be prefect when she won and that being the reason she came to find Bull only to get mad at him for fucking Molasses, it's not like her and Bull were an item then and it was really outside of her characterization at the beginning of the movie, which was more laissez-faire about sex and neutral about being a perfect show dog. Also the fact that the dog show full of dog people went into a panic because Rocco barked was contrived.

The dogs rampaging though the city, killing squirrel and getting that purse chihuahua killed was pretty fun and Bull getting sodomized by Sterling when he confessed his feelings to Honey was so absurd that it was funny. The animations also good.

overall 4/10

When War of the Worlds, a unanimously panned movie, has a 20% audience score, tell me why I should trust audience reviews?

I used to compare this movie to Sausage Party as the concept of innocuous things secretly doing crazy, fucked up stuff is present in both. Though the more I thought about it, the less that worked for me for a simple reason. Sausage Party, while filled with shock humor and sex acts, is at least easy to tell how the movie came to be. Seth Rogan got stoned with his friends, said "Ahuhuhu dude what if Toy Story but the food says fuck?" With Fixed it doesn't feel the same. I think them being actual animals instead of cartoon food doesn't help much, but the energy of the jokes in Fixed is just dogs fucking in increasingly debauched ways and showing off their assholes to the screen all movie. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, then that means Genndy wants to fuck dogs.

Honestly I'm kind of torn about the stuff that isn't the animation. The direction's not quite as strong as other Genndy cartoons and the story is... well, I'm undecided. On one hand it feels like the substance and themes of a Disney film in an R-rated sex comedy, on the other hand I do feel like there's SOMETHING there in terms of characterization and ideas that's more observant & honest than what you normally see in a Disney film. At first similar ideas to Primal in terms of pure instinct trumping all, but then interestingly enough subverted with "your balls aren't REALLY what makes you special" & the idea of ultimately accepting domestication. It's kind of the anti-Primal in a way. The way Bull became a castrated family man while Honey gets to go out & watch bear strip shows. Lucky's masochism. It's not a GREAT screenplay and you fan feel the questionable influence of the Simpsons writer but I'd say there's more interesting stuff in there than usual nonetheless, making it above average.

But I also think really good expressive animation can make something good & worth watching the same way acting can elevate a movie or delivery can elevate a joke. And god damn the visuals are legitimately something special and get across so much character.
