Also AI slop is too generic and can't create new art styles because it just copies and makes derivatives of what already exists. It is also wildly inconsistent to use for a full animated movie without heavy editing

I feel like thread's going to get nuked cause of the OP image but in case anyone sees this, how do people narrow down frame timings? Like the standard of animation is 24FPS, but how do people determine if they want an action to be animated on 1's, 2's, 3's, etc.? I'm especially curious as to how they got this stuff down in the pure hand-drawn days decades ago, too.

I gave up trying to be an artist after being told by a professional that my work was unappealing and that no one would hire me, even as a mediocre Sunday Funnies Cartoonist. I haven't drawn a thing in over a decade, and only stew in my own bitterness as a failed, jaded middle-aged man watching younger, far more talented artists achieve their dreams and live more fulfilled lives. Not all of us are meant to for greatness. Societies still need construction workers, too

That comic burns my biscuits.
If you want people to get excited you doodled a character on a blank white background they need a surrounding context that people care about. Make a whole fucking cartoon series. One people like and invest in. Give it likeable characters the audience wants to see more of. Then you've earned the right to get adoration for simple drawings.

When I was 12, I was obsessed with Dragon Ball Z. It was airing on Toonami at the time, and it had gotten me into art. Though I'd draw other things, I'd always come back to drawing my Saiyan OC and different aliens like the Ginyu Squad. One night after school I decided to try something big and make a giant render of my Saiyan and an alien out of construction paper. The head on one sheet, then the body, then the legs.

My mom was there, watching TV on the couch as I'm working. She asks me randomly what I want to be when I grow up. Now that I'm older, I realize it wasn't an innocuous question, but I answer, "I want to be an artist."

She scoffed and laughed just a little too hard. "You better actually learn how to draw then, because these are shit."

Not sure if she was drunk, can't really remember the context, but that statement landed so hard that I quit drawing. Picked it up again about 10 years ago just to draw in /co/ threads and was praised by people there 'if only I practiced'. I was going through some of her documents a few years back, and saw that she had saved the drawing along with a few others. She caught me looking at them and went, "I always wondered why you stopped drawing... You were so good at it!"

Not sure why I chose to share this. Anyways, I work in IT now.

Yeah lol. 6th gen. I went from 64 GB to 128. I traded it in and saved money with Apple. Had to get the apple pencil pro. Will likely go to the iPad pro in the future, for sure would recommend 13 in instead of 11 in. I cheaped out but won't next time. Toonsquid mogs procreate dreams so hard it's not even funny. Back when I got it, I was conflicted which one was better because procreate is a super great art app but don't let that fool you, their animation app is very lackluster. If any of you guys upgrade to the iPad air 6th gen, heads up that if it overheats a lot initially, just restart the whole thing and the problem disappears.

Same with a bunch of /ic/ books, I didn't want to turn into a wayne about my adhd and autism leading to these attention problems, so I just kind of let it fester out of doodling once a month something. Ask yourself two questions:
>Do I give enough fucks to animate this on 1s/2s/3s?
>Does this scene NEED to be done on 3s/2s/1s?
More frames = more work/time needed to finish it, and in some instances that might mean losing money or running out of damns to give.

I guess one way to test if you can give enough of a damn for a given approach is looking at how long the animation will probably run for.
100 seconds (just under 2 minutes, barely even a short) on 1s means 2400 frames. Ask yourself if that sounds like it'd be torture or if you think that'd be fun.
Ask yourself how much fast-paced shit you're going to have in that 100-second short. If it's some Family Guy skit, you're not gonna need 2400 frames of animation, but if you're doing some kind of fast-paced short ad for some amazing god-tier fight scene, then every frame might matter.

>>149933930
This comic is ass.
Seems like every time I see someone on social media post it unironically or have that same "feel", it's always some generic-ass cartoon/anime character with some generic story and no hook, or the creator is just some lump that doesn't really do much to "advertise" their presence. Both factions blame other people and not themselves.

TL;DR:
>almost all TV content is 24 FPS, it's the standard
>animating on ones means animating every single frame, 24 frames per second
>animating on twos = every second frame, 12 FPS
>threes = every third frame, 8 FPS

Bonus semi-related info:
You can fill the "gaps" between your drawn frames however you want, whatever looks best for the lowest price.
>using your animation software's built-in tweening

>AI interpolation
