Why are Disney shows so safe? Don't get me wrong, I love Disney shows, but I compare a show like Stanley to Invader Zim and Stanley is a wholesome and gentle show and it premiered the same year as Zim did.

Were there any Disney shows that either could be dark, had some genuinely mean characters (that weren't goofy villains like say, Fat Cat or Don Karnage), or had some kind of cynical edge to them? Because Disney shows play themselves safe very often

I honestly like Stanley more than Zim, I just want to know why Disney shows tend to play themselves incredibly safe

Why the fuck are you comparing Stanley, a show meant to educate preschoolers about nature, to Invader Zim, a show aimed at pre-teens and teenagers with no educational aspect whatsoever? I couldn't possibly think of two cartoons that are more different if I tried.

Disney prides themselves on being as family friendly and safe as possible, that’s been their whole identity for like a century now. Even modern DisneyTVA shows have this safe energy to them. Its funny cause people acted like Gravity Falls and The Owl House were pushing new boundaries when in reality they were safe edgy as shit and didn’t do shit to further animation as a medium, the content in them pales in comparison compared to what shows like Courage, Flapjack, and Invader Zim were showing on TV a decade or two prior.

>b-b-but le Amphibia showed a girl get stabbed

Yeah and they had to add a faggy warning to it fearing kiddies would piss and shit their pants cause of how oversanitized tv is these days. The Patrick Star Show had an episode where he decapitates tons of people and they didn’t have to add a shitty warning to it cause they’re not fucking Disney

I don't understand why modern cartoon channels still act like kids haven't ever seen basic violence before when anime's been extremely popular in the US for 30 years.

Disney cartoons tend to be cute and wholesome, Nickelodeon's cartoons raunchy, and Cartoon Network's cool and edgy.
Maybe it's a long shot but that's more or less how i saw the networks back in the day.

Never seen an episode of this show, but I always thought the art style was splendid.

>be gen alpha kid
>turn on disney channel
>humor is extremely sanitized, can't even see someone get stabbed without a lame disclaimer
>go on YouTube
>find millions of animations with adult jokes and graphic violence
And execs wonder why kids don't watch cartoons anymore

This. Probably the most entry-level shit of all time, Dragon Ball Z, has characters get shot through the stomach and ripping their own arms off. And fucking everyone's seen that shit. The idea that children can't handle violence in animation at this point is a total fucking farce.

Is Gargoyles dark compared to say, Courage the Cowardly Dog though?

Even in a show like Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers which isn't a preschool show, aside from the villains who are very goofy, everyone in that show is really nice. Chip and Dale do get on each others nerves, but still work as a team and even when they went into topics like how dangerous cults are, it was never dark

Gargoyles was Disney's answer to WB's Batman the animated series. Comparing it to courage is unfair because courage had higher highs and lows with its humor tackling hard issues, like that domestic abuse episode of the dog and his bunny girlfriend.
