This movie did a lot wrong.
>Skips over Lois finding out his identity, he even told the Justice Gang offscreen.
>Basically no Daily Planet workplace drama.
>Lois doesn't really get much to do.
>Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen never even speaks to Superman.
>Makes his parents evil and he essentially disowns Krypton.
>Makes Krypto not his dog.
>Spends too much time on the Justice Gang.
>Cancel Culture subplot which is just Gunn inserting his personal hangups into the story.
>Visually ugly
>Superman clone that the story doesn't do anything interesting with.
>Says that Superman does good things because it's the good thing to do and you should do more gooder things, since Krypton being destroyed isn't important he no longer has that tragic aspect driving him.
>Big speech where he emphasizes his "humanity"(read: America-ness) which undercuts the whole immigration angle.
>Didn't even become Superman until he was 27, Man of Steel also has this problem.
>Not witty, just dumbass Gunn Humor.
Overall a 4/10 at best.

It was more or less a Dan Slott comic on the big screen.

Clark Kent is barely in the movie, which is crazy since Superman's secret identity is such an important aspect of his character.

Superman telling Lois the truth or her finding out is a big event in his fictional life and the movie just skips right over it. I don't know whether it was because they thought it was unbelievable that Lois wouldn't know (even though they did the whole "hypno glasses" thing), or that Superman lying to/gaslighting his closest friends was thought to be too mean. Superman being extremely neurotic about keeping his secrets and preserving his double life is a huge aspect of the character.

Absolutely based, you emigrate to leave bad shit behind you, not to bring them with you.

I thought Lois would be more of a spitfire when they cast Rachel Brosnahan but instead they gave her a jaded low energy vibe.

That’s Supergirl, who was raised there. For Superman, Krypton is just the device to give him powers. His emotional connection to the planet is just in a very broad sense. It suscks that it exploded, but, eh, he has his pa and ma.

This is why post-Crisis Superman was less interesting.

Silver Age Superman didn’t give much of a toss about Krypton either, it was the pre-crisis Bronze Age Superman who did. And it was dull.

>Silver Age Superman didn’t give much of a toss about Krypton either
Absolutely not true. They didn't play it for pathos as much but Krypton was a huge part of his character. All the Bronze Age Krypton stuff was just carried over from the Silver Age. Kandor, Superman having memories of Krypton, him speaking Kryptonian, Krypto, Supergirl etc.

>Despite the motto’s use on screen, comic books shied away from it. It was not until 1991, 53 years after Superman first appeared, that “truth, justice and the American way” graced a comic book’s page, says Schwartz. Superman No. 53 shows the hero proudly saluting, with the full phrase emblazoned in capital letters and punctuated by an exclamation point inside the stripes of a billowing American flag.

They didn't have to redo the origin story, it's more that the status quo the movie sets up skips over or ignores the most interesting parts of his character.

Bullshit lie, did you even watch the movie?
Jimmy the stud took over, can’t say I liked that tho
Emphasis the Kansas parents, I still don’t like it but I get it
I hope power girl gets the horse, idk why SG has a dog, cat, squirrel and a gold fish.
Nah, it was just enough
What are you talking about? The identity crisis subplot?
Better than the last supe movie
He’s literally hench maxxing you uncultured swine
What are you talking about? Superman being a Boy Scout raised by good parents is a pillar.
You on Twitter too long
Isn’t it 25?
Subjective, it was pretty toned down. G2 was better humor.
Absolute bait. Do you even like Superman?

Its funny there's been all this controversy about the refugee aspect when Kal-el always went to Earth to end up in a lower class than his parents had. Its the kind of shit Jason Aaron realized too and has just been belaboring to an excruciating degree in Absolute. And if you look at the general reaction to this movie, not a lot of people give a shit that they made Jor-el and Lara imperfect, or about those two characters in general. The whole point is they are just one aspect of Clark's life. That is the classic immigrant story.
>he essentially disowns Krypton
Anon, he still has their house symbol everywhere and can talk to a relative that grew up on Krypton. Its his parents that are jerks.

>Superman being extremely neurotic
You read far too many Silver Age superdickery blog posts/watched too many idiotic superdickery YT vids and took the wrong information from either/both.
This hasn't been a real issue, since Clark married Lois and since the JL has been a real team, or essentially since COIE. The only exception is outlier elseworlds, bad one arc writers (which have been very few), and an actual universe reboot (e.g. Nu52) - and that only lasted a few issues/months.
Superman needing the Clark Kent identity is a more common trope of the past 50 or so years, that even became a thing during that Nu52 reboot, not just once but twice.

>Skips over Lois
By the middle of MoS, that Lois knew Clark was Superman, an alien, and all these other secrets that comics books used to waste months pissing out as if they are secrets of the universe. Superman and Lois barely covered it in Flashbacks and Smallville only had it because it was episodic TV with some 20 plus hours of screen time EACH YEAR, or 200 plus hours over the ten seasons. MoS and Superman were both two hours+; you don't have that time to waste.
It's fully unnecessary.
What y'all are sperging out about wasn't even a focal point on Smallville - it was last that much of an issue on Lois & Clark in the 1980s.

No it isn't, it's the bread and butter of Spider-Man specifically. His schtick is the conflict between his lives as Peter and Spider-Man. It's part of why the character stood out originally.

>Skips over Lois finding out his identity, he even told the Justice Gang offscreen.
Good, this is pointless.

>Basically no Daily Planet workplace drama.
Good, this is pointless

>Lois doesn't really get much to do.
She went and got Mr Terrific to help save Superman and later piloted his ship to protect the rest of the Planet while they took Luthor down with the story she helped write.

>Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen never even speaks to Superman.
Is he Superman's pal in this iteration? Besides, they gave him a lot to do in the movie for his minor role.

>Makes his parents evil and he essentially disowns Krypton.
>Makes Krypto not his dog.
Gunn confirmed that his parents weren't evil,. just misguided and desperate. He also confirmed that not everyone on Kryton was an imperialist and that that was an isolated incident. Krypto belonging to Kara is fine and changes little.

>Spends too much time on the Justice Gang.
Good. Helped flesh out the new universe and highlight that Superman's strength is his friends.

>Cancel Culture subplot which is just Gunn inserting his personal hangups into the story.
>Visually ugly
Shut the fuck up, stupid faggot.

>Superman clone that the story doesn't do anything interesting with.
Obviously, setting up Bizarro for a sequel with having the clone get thrown into Lex's cubic dimension.

>Says that Superman does good things because it's the good thing to do and you should do more gooder things, since Krypton being destroyed isn't important he no longer has that tragic aspect driving him.
The tragedy of Krypton was never why he does good things, retard.

>Big speech where he emphasizes his "humanity"(read: America-ness) which undercuts the whole immigration angle.

This was pile of dog crap, everything BAD about Superman condensed into 2 hours and 7 minutes of garbage: Superman is hyper feminine, clueless, a pushover, gullible, average looking- there’s nothing “Super” about him, in fact I’d call him Whimperman because that’s what this film was: a whimper- Clark Kent is even worse, but I don’t know if you can even call Clark Kent a character in 2025, he’s so far removed from what made him click in the 40s that’s almost like watching a soulless hulk drag itself around until Superman shows up again, who is Clark Kent and why should we care? This isn’t answered! Why does he write articles? Why does he like Lois Lane? Why does he embrace his Kryptonian roots? James Gunn says IDGAF about any of that.

Lex Luthor is the worst depiction of Lex Luthor possibly every concocted, hes not smart, he’s not cunning, he’s not brilliant- he’s just a whiny incel who hates Superman for no reason, legit we are never given a valid reason why this Lex would hate Superman- he just exists too, because James Gunn is a bad writer and just needed a villain, this was just an evil bald nigga really he didn’t need to be named Lex Luthor he could have been any random CEO, I’d sooner believe this was Lex’s bitter vengeful son before I believe it was the self made big wig himself.

Mr. Terrific got more cool moments than Superman, the Boravia conflict was completely hamfisted and a sheltered white person’s view of how global political affairs work- hey James when’s Superman gonna attack the US military for invading Iraq you pretentious f*ck? Watching a little brown kid pray to a vape of Superman as if he’s looking for a white saviour was just nauseating, once again an example of how Superman has been destroyed and far removed from the actually compelling character he was in the 40s in the name of idol worship.

Word count reached- Superman sucked and always will suck: 0/10, stop astroturfing this garbage
