The Male loneliness epidemic has some truth. Shen is just old enough to have grown up with all the other guys, good and bad, who developed an intense aversion to doing anything that might make women think they are a creep, a rapist, or an incel. Even with him being "one of the good ones" who is nice, and talks about feelings, and respects women, likes anime, but isn't a pervert about it, rejects any overt sexuality, makes himself as small and meek and non-threatening as possible; it all just leaves him alienated at best, and with faggots insisting he must be about to chop his dick off, because they can't conceive of a man who does all of that performative softboy shit they demand of men, and not actually be a tranny.
Truly sad thing is that some men do fall for that line of thinking. They're so miserable and lonely that they're willing to try anything if it means people will finally start paying attention to them as some kind of viable romantic partner.
