There's people who hate the recent seasons with a seething passion, and there's people who appreciate that with a little character development you can give the show more depth. I like both. The earlier seasons are better in terms of raw humor. The recent seasons have more staying power and complexity.

The episode wasn't even bad. They played it well, everyone was aware that turning into a pickle was absolutely fucking retarded as a reaction, Rick was the only one going at it seriously. The only bad part was the fan reaction, which you can hardly blame on the show.
Basically it was Rick's lowest point, the show alternated between the action sequences and showing through the other characters how fucking ridiculous and childish Rick was being and everyone having a come to jesus moment that he really took it too far that time and his assholery was a problem, but then a segment of the audience had that fly over their heads and they wanted pickle rick t-shirts and merch and went around shouting it the way kids now are going to the minecraft movie and shouting "chicken jockey".
It's like oppenheimer going, "I am become death, the destroyer of worlds," mournfully spoken and repudiating the invention of the atomic bomb, and a bunch of insufferable retards jumping around shouting, "yeah hahahah i'm death now, i destroy worlds! pew pew pew!" that doesn't make oppenheimer retarded, that is on the fans for being too retarded to understand a basic concept.
