To me, this is when Sonic was at his best. A Static character that compensates his absence of character arc and not enought "relatable flaws" with charisma and a warm pressence that motivates you to go forward.

In a story, he doesn´t need an enciting incident. He IS the enciting incident.

He is like the Wind. Free from Shackles, and while can change from hapyp to angry, can be cocky untill being humbled. Much like the winds come from being chill, to hard to stormy, it doesn´t changes. It doesn´t becomes Mist, or a Blizzard or nothing else.

The Wind just is, and goes whathever it wants and pleases.

And therefore. So Does Sonic.

To write him off under an American perspective, you just need to think outside the box.

Gary Stus sins from being Hyper ocmpetenet, and extremely lucky, having to depend on the Author´s favoritism to win, or they having the right skill at the right moment. Not to mention they never loose a fight or get out of everytinhg outscathed

Indie meanwhile, has a limited amount of Skills for his line of work (Can understnad old languages, he´s agile enought to circumvent traps and he has a quick eye thanks to his gun)

But he not only is fast enought to catch a car by running, he´s not strong enought to beat somebody twice his size, (like the big burly Nazi on Raiders of the Last Ark) and he definitely isn´t good enought at sword fighting.

Not to mention he FAILS to retrieve the Golden Idol from Belloq, failed to save Marion on Cairo thinking she died, and he was defintly under torture under the cult of Kali, and needed help on Last Crusade.

So in essence. a Gary Stu is a Kirito, a Sunjin-Woo, a Wesley Crusher if we want to get westernized.
