It's always a matter of preference, the subject matter and medium are a factor too. In a professional production the model exists for good reason but breaking model in a fanwork may make the character better suited for said fanwork.

There's a bit of breathing room allowed with furry facial designs.
Not so much for standard humanoid designs.

Though it could just be that I prefer softer facial features and Swain's extremely sharp slutfaces with overdetailed hair just really put me off.
But I still think if he made more OCs or drew chicks more compatible with his artstyle I wouldn't be so mad.

Swain is an extremely professional artist, but holy shit most of his female artworks aree copypasted dominique faces just with different hairstyles, lip glosses and eyelines. Not that it's critically bad - a lot of even good artists suffer from the same face syndrome, but sometimes it's pretty funny - like his artworks in this thread.
Also you can see that swain suffers a bit from the same body syndrome where bodily proportions from character to character are almost uncannily similar.
P.S. I'm an illustrator myself -not as good as swain, but still - so fuck you to everyone who thinks that "learn to draw then critic"

A few people around these parts use the term "off model" as something inherently negative, hell the term is meant to imply something negative in regards to consistency when it comes to the production pipeline. The reality is that different interpretations of characters are going to be able to capture different audiences, plain and simple. Honestly I think that's the beauty of it. There are some characters on their base design that people would never give a chance, but you let the right artist get their hands on them and watch what happens lol

I get why people will over look and even excuse it when it comes to porn, cause porn is usually mass appeal so I guess I can't get mad but appealing shouldn't be an excuse to change things everytime, there's sometimes a good reason something isn't appealing (and this doesn't just apply to physical appearance, it's the same logic that leads to removing the darker/controversial actions of a character so they are more heroic). there's a reason source material fans almost always look down on live action adaptations, and that's because it will take characters that have narrative importance to their ugliness and strip them of it to appeal to normies.
