Max may have drawing talent but he is far too unfunny to be in charge of a comedy show like Ren and Stimpy. Believe it or not, Ren and Stimpy was a uniquely funny show, not just another pile of gray slop reproduced from a formula. What you're saying only makes sense to you because the bar is below the floor. He'd probably make it marginally less sucky because he has skill as a director. I don't particularly care that much for APC's stories, I only liked Ren Seeks Help and Stimpys Pregnant, but I'll admit that show had some great looking animation, looked better than most of the Games era.

Say what you want about APC but at least it tried to be close to the spirit of the original. The expressive and over the top animation was the most defining aspect of the shows identity and the reboot doesn't even have that.

He doesn't even animate anymore. He posted about a year and a half ago that he was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia which causes him a lot of symptoms but the most important he said was hes tired all the time and has pain issues in his wrists/hands. That condition is notoriously hard to treat and sometimes it's not even taken seriously so I do sympathize with him. However instead of animating he just does live stream lets plays now. That's it. The final product sounds like something he'd hate, but he seemed to stop blogging his opinions around the 2010's, probably when he realized that being harsh on others work like that can cause him to get blacklisted.

On a side note he always complimented work done by people influenced by him, including Rebecca Sugar, who (having a more unique style in her earlier works) would later go on to make Steven Universe, the poster child of bland beanmouth cartoons.

I've said this once before, but I feel like the biggest flaw of APC was the pacing, Atruists was 40 minutes of nothing happening, tons of scenes just drag out, John's similar to George Lucas in the sense that he's one of those guys that works his best when properly wrangled and in a team full of people who can say "no" to his ideas.

Pacing is a big issue in many of John K's solo work, Booboo Runs Wild was incredibly hard to sit through cause of how damn slow the pacing was.

Bob Camp ran the show throughout the Games are and it wasn't too big of a downgrade from the original, he was mostly the reason why the Spumco era episodes were so good. Vincent Waller and Bob Camp are also teaching younger artists working on post-sequel SpongeBob how to properly draw wacky and expressively. This is true and important to remember, a lot of people contributed to making R&S so good. But at the same time you sometimes see people excessively downplaying John's contributions nowadays, because they want to distance the show from him. He deserves a ton of credit still.

John K brought a certain psychotic energy to his cartoons that isn't easy to replicate. Even just listening at Ren's voice, Billy West could never match it.
