He threw his lot in with extremes. Sure his Sonic Underground fans didn't shower him in adoration the same way, instead having an abiding, loyal dedication and respect for the man and his craft, but they would always stand with him. I’m in a funny position where I was both an mlp and Tamers SU fan, and still I wish he never moved to pony. Why? One reason is because the sonic series was way funnier and was far more established, but also because mlp had had a ton of edgy fan series over the years, whereas the Sonic Underground fan scene was practically just Tamers.
He could still regain all his old fans trust though, it would just require him to pull off the ultimate troll by ending the pony series in the most horrific way possible.

For me it's less the new subject matter and more that the vibe has completely changed from when he first started getting discovered
he took the early recognition well, played into just enough, picked up momentum, maintained kayfabe
with the switch to mlp, he's started playing to their fanbase which has changed how he presents himself and his material. the kayfabe is pretty dead, that kind of "one weird doing raunchy bad low-effort drawings" has gone now that he's openly dealing with other fans irl and putting too much effort into his once unique work as just another pony animator

The first movie was also where a bunch of the bad parts of Tamers came from. The allpowerful OCs, the overindulgent anime battles, the unironic sex scene with no humor, it all originated from DoTS. People were just willing to give Tamers a little more slack because we still believed in him and didn’t think it would become a trend. Looking back he went bad as soon as he made the first crossover and kept declining.

I tried my hardest to stick with him. I was happy he was making money doing what he loved, but I knew it would end poorly. I watched a few small horse episodes, but then couldn't take it anymore. It was even more insult to injury when he started using SU music in his horse show. It was like one of those /co/ episodes where the common man gets rich and then fucks it all up.
