Is it just me or is a lot of Homestuck fanart really, really good. Not because it's particularly well drawn, but mainly because of the poses and expressions the characters are given.

I have a folder with like a hundred pictures in it, and there are so many bangers I'm having trouble deciding which one I should use to illustrate my point.

I know Homestuck was incredibly important for the internet.
Specifically I remember hearing that the popularity of the RPGmaker game OFF (and by extension Undertale into Deltarune) as well as the popularity of a fan translation of Danganronpa which caused those games to get official English releases was because the Homestuck fandom was bored during an absense of the webcomic.

Don't know literally anything about what Homestuck is outside of that though. It was a webcomic popular on Tumblr in the early 2010s, and that is the extent of my knowledge.
Is it good? Is it something I should know more about?

I was notoriously bad at keeping track of events that happened over the course of years. Like I'd completely forgotten about the note to John from Jake, courtesy of Jade, and then the Scratch happened and we got to Jake and I did an acrobatic fucking pirouette off the handle.

At the time I was too up my ass about Sburb itself and not the story that was developing within. I've always wondered what a normal session of Sburb is supposed to look like; or if a normal session can even produce in a successful healthy universe. Maybe each "canon" session is, in their own individual way, an unusual session.

I've got a certainty that the Karkat plushie was a testing the waters to see if Homestuck was enough of a property to merchandise again, and it convinced Hussie that he can squeeze a few more drops of blood from it, so: flashy product of meager investment.
It's only a pilot. A 30 minute animation. That can be done in 6 months, certainly.
And it'll have a second wave of plushies along with its release. Of course it will. This is just desperately following in the wake of the current internet trends.

Sburb wants its players to succeed and create a new universe, but it also knows how unlikely it is. Like a frog laying eggs, SBURB has billions of sessions in the hope that just one will succeed and continue the cycle. Honestly, karkat's session is the most normal one we've seen. They fought their denizens, some of them godtiered, and bred the genesis frog, even if they fucked it up. I think every session is "unwinnable". Every session has something happen that makes it "doomed", "null", "void", etc. Because every session we've seen play out canonically is impossible, and the eventual overcoming of the impossibility always happens within Sburb's systems itself. I think Lord English is a constant within session systems, and every group of paradoxically interconnected systems will include a Doc Scratch among its First Guardians, leading to a Lord English emerging. The Black King/Black Queen/Jack Noir is the fakeout final boss, the narrative final boss, the Golbez or Kuja or Porky or what have you. Lord English is the true final boss of Sburb, a construct that every session cluster finds a backstory for (look at all the fakeout Lord Englishes) before using as an ultimate threat.

This also ties into Rosebot being the final villain. There's this metaphor used earlier in HSBC where Homestuck is compared to a tree while Alt-Calliope (and by extension Candy) is compared to mistletoe, a parasite. This is juxtaposed to orchids, which just use the tree (homestuck) as a base, presumably Meat's storyline with Dirk and Rosebot trying to continue the sburb plot. And as Jade points out, the orchid could only hurt the tree if it grows so large that it blocks out the light. The sylladex is just a video game inventory system. Every character has a unique kind (the modus) which leads to hilarious antics. These gags get used like once and are then forgotten forever so don't worry about it.
Alchemy is just the process of using the item cards and fusing them into new items. The whole process is intentionally super complicated with multiple steps but it also doesn't matter and Hussie doesn't show the individual steps

Honestly Discord basically plays directly into Hussie's whole format.

He makes interactive, CYOA style comics, discord lets him have a moderated, controlled environment to ask for suggestions and post updates with minimal screwing around involved. Meanwhile, Discord can also host not only images, but also gifs and even videos if he ever decides to do any full blown animated updates ever again, all without Hussie himself needing to do anything to maintain it.
