The beginning of Oliver and Company wrecked me.
I don't really get too affected by moments in Disney movies that are supposed to be really emotionally manipulative, like character deaths, or scenes where characters cry or break down. But seeing that kitten in such fear and distress really got to me.

The Willie segment in Make Mine Music choked me up as a kid... the poor whale just wanted to sing. The ending of Casey at the Bat where he fucks up and loses the game also bothered me immensely. I also rewatched both Pinocchio and Bambi as an adult and was surprised by how freaky both movies got with Lampwick's transformation in the former and the hysterical chicken in the latter. I kinda wish Disney stuck to his guts and did more stuff like that later on.

Absolutely. It's mature in a way most Disney romances aren't and Lady has an incredible amount of agency for a female romantic lead in 1950s Hollywood. Simba and Nala are a close second for mature romances (and it's probably first place for Disney characters with palpable sexual tension) but the relationship takes a narrative backseat to all the grand drama. The irony of course is they were free to explore tender and relatable human romance better when not tied down to the fairytale trappings of the human princesses. I would also argue that Disney female animal protagonists have always been free to 'girlboss' in a very natural and unforced way without the political scrutiny given to human characters

>I would also argue that Disney female animal protagonists have always been free to 'girlboss' in a very natural and unforced way without the political scrutiny given to human characters

That's because its easy to believe a female animal has skills and capability to survive. This is why I take offense to that awful movie Aristocats. Even a domesticated cat will have primal hunting instincts and such. So Duchess being indeed such a USELESS do nothing spoiled rotten diva made me hate her. She's so useless she allows mice to roam her owner's mansion. And don't give me the whole "The mouse saved Duchess' family!" the point is that Duchess behaves in such an unrealistic way for a feline character in general. She's just so gosh darned WORTHLESS. She's a failure of a feline and she's also a bad mother (teaching her son to NEVER fight back in case he has to get into a scrap). I just can't stand this worthless useless do nothing ever dependent bitch.

Now with human females its annoying to see them Girl Boss because we know that women are not intelligent and strong, we have seen how women function in reality and how society has been negatively impacted so that doesn't align with the false narrative we see in movies, men dumb and vagina is genius. That's insulting bullshit. Throw in female anthros being superior to the men as also being insulting trash, seeing Judy Hopps beat up a Rhino is bullshit even for fiction and don't give me that "she bounced!" that's bullshit even for fiction that Rhino should have defeated her.

Baloo's "death scene" after his fight with Shere Khan in The Jungle Book teared me up, but I was around 6 at the time.

As an adult, the one time I got emotional at a Disney cartoon was the scene in The Lion King when Scar gaslights Simba into thinking Mufasa's death was his fault. I was practically shaking in my seat with rage at the thought of an adult screwing with a child's emotions like that. I still think Scar is by far the most evil of Disney villains.

Lilo and Stitch makes me cry because its such a bullshit story. Nani is obviously unkempt and ill fit to take care of her notably young sibling. Her house looks like a mess even before the explosion destroys it. She obviously works unskilled jobs so she can barely afford a roof over her head and spends a notable chunk of the movie unemployed and somehow she keeps custody of Lilo? BULLSHIT. Doesn't help that in the ending we don't see Nani get a new job of any type.

I don't care if sentimental idiots say the live action remake is bad, Nani giving up Lilo makes far too much sense. Lilo and Stitch is one of the most overrated movies ever and realistically speaking Lilo would grow up maladjusted with Nani because Nani's employment history is dodgy and she's clearly not fit to be a mature caretaker.

Nani is the Girl Failure stereotype WITHOUT being presented as being So Cool. You can put as many colorful aliens as you like but Nani's situation is honestly very ugly and she only gets shielded from consequences because its a stupid Kid's Movie.

>Were zoomers emotionally invested in trash like frozen or wreck it ralph?

Wreck It Ralph is an awful movie. I can't believe how many idiots think Vanellope is a likable character. I thought she was a bitch and being a kid doesn't excuse her actions especially since she's not a real kid she's a video game character so she's coding and pixels and she's self aware of her situation. So she's been active in her arcade machine for many years. And yet she still finds time to insult anyone who she perceives as homeless? She's a cunt.

Many people started to hate Vanellope because her personality got worse in the sequel. But I hated her since the first movie because she hijacked the movie to make it about herself. And I hated how Ralph needed to sacrifice improving his life to be happy where he is.....being treated as a the villain except now he gets a little cake to eat. Yeah....cake put in the filthy literal mud. That scene really left a sour taste in my mouth.

I hate Wreck it Ralph. And I resent all the idiots who think that movie is good.

Hey man I resent the Girl Failure stereotype being presented as cool. Nani predates it. We get to see how stressful it is to indeed be a failure in life. Working stressful tedious jobs merely to survive. Your house is a mess. LIteral trash decorates your garden. And yet......we have to believe in the writing of the movie that Nani is going to be a good young adult guardian of Lilo? Come on.

Lilo and Stitch is honestly an existential horror movie because even if Lilo didn't exist Nani's life is pretty awful. You don't want to live that lifestyle the obvious dilapidated house, the trash, the lack of readily accessible money to pay the bills, she has no friends because David wants to date her not friend her, etc. I just can't stand movies like that. The only thing more depressing than Nani's life is Disney's Faggin from Oliver and Company so he helps make amends to rescue an innocent girl but goes back to being homeless starving on the streets. Wow....that's grim.

Anyway Lilo and Stitch is a just a grossly overrated movie. I just don't see how many people sincerely like it, without being Loser Masturbators, when its so fucking depressing. And yet the movie's message is bollocks. Nani would absolutely lose custody of Lilo.

Disney was going to set up an alternative studio that would exist for the sole purpose of making sequels to Pixar movies

A few of them like Toy Story 3 and Monsters Inc 2: Lost in Scaredise got really far into production

Its absolutely nothing like the film. They are not friends in the book and its really more of a sad story about a rural area changing with the times. Disney traditinally buys names and ideas rather than actually adadpting stories directly

It's kind of a shame how generic and safe Disney films are these days. Watching stuff like The Fox and The Hound, The Black Cauldron, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame literally showed how Disney back then weren't afraid of having edge and I am pretty much glad to have grown up with those.

A lot of the scenes from Who Framed Roger Rabbit with Judge Doom still gives shivers down my spine to this day.

I don't know, Disney has always been pretty generically safe in terms of storytelling and subject matter. Even in something like hunchback, they HAD to include the fucking gargoyles and a lot of the dumb slapstick humor that just doesn't fit the story. Disney tropes and their want for mass appeal really just ruins their stories a lot of the time except for the fox and the hound, that was mainly really solid

Even now the part of the stampede where mufasa tries rescuing Simba paired with the score still gives me goosebumps. That whole portion of the movie was masterfully done, culminating with that look of pure horror mufasa's face when he realizes scar is going to kill him.

this movie gets taken for granted just because its animated that features talking animals (mainly dogs) while ignoring all the subtle moments and even serious tones that really adds tension to the plot and certain topics that often get missed if you don't pay attention to. I feel like disney put a lot of thought into it and it's a shame they no longer bothered to make something like this again. This is a movie with a lead female character who is not entirely weak or needy, she has agency, she learns and stays calm and collected under unfamiliar situations. She is the perfect example of a female character that has both strength and weaknesses but neither are overplayed, she's so likeable that she's what every feminist writer wishes for their girlboss characters. The movie is pure unadulterated romance told by professional writers who don't underestimate you but suggest to watch it again to understand it if you didn't the first time.
It sucks that the sequel ruined it like very other sequel
