My main thing is that Goku grows stronger, but Superman is just as strong as he needs to be for the sake of the story.
But this also means he can be as weak as he needs to be in order to struggle so the story can have stakes.

Because of that, we often end up in a space where the Death Battle/Powerscaler idea of Superman becomes incompatible with his own stories.

The reason why it'd be different is mainly because the primary reason for Kyle losing was that his willpower pathetically pales in comparison to Simon's.
