On this day 35 years ago
TaleSpin premiered. Widely considered one of the best Disney Afternoon cartoons of all time.
>>150279145 (OP)
TaleSpin was considered a massive failure by Disney. Eisner literally yelled at the heads of his television animation department because Tiny Toon Adventures ate their lunch. There's a reason why all of Disney's tv shows going forward were more wacky and zany and less adventure-focused

I am salty it seems there won't be an HD re-scan. I expected it after they did for Rescue Rangers and Goof Troop.

This show defined my childhood, and for once I actually associated with the intended character for my demographic, Kit. Usually kid characters in cartoons are just annoying, like I loved TMNT, but I always hated when those kids showed up and got in the way. I don't want to pretend I know the turtles, I want to pretend I am a turtle. But Kit was cool and relatable, and he had an airfoil, so what's not to like? To this day I still walk around without pants on.

>TaleSpin was considered a massive failure by Disney.
Not just by Disney but also by kids from when the show debuted. Grabbing a bunch of old animal characters but inexplicably making them anthros in a cultural environment from the 1930s felt.....grossly out of date. It felt like weird off brand outlandish fan fiction. And I don't know who made the decision but I brutally hated Rebecca and her shitty daughter. I just didn't like the Killjoy Bitch Rebecca and her annoying pointless time wasting crotch goblin brat.
Talespin will forever be one of the weirder experiments Disney has done and its up there with Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers where inexplicably Chip and Dale who are Donald Duck's main villains are now heroes who help humans and animals from criminals. I just could not stand these kinds of fan fictions. They are weirder than Kingdom Hearts.
And most of them did not pay off. No one cares about them. The only true major hitter among them all was Ducktales and the Aladdin TV series. Disney was losing big time during that decade to things like Warner's DCAU and the explosion of anime like Pokemon.

>Eisner literally yelled at the heads of his television animation department because Tiny Toon Adventures ate their lunch.
The irony is that Tiny Toons was considered half assed and quite a lousy show in that even the kids who grew up with it realize it was not good this is why the Tiny Toons reboot also failed BEFORE people even knew about the changes like Babs and Buster being blood family this time around. So Disney lost to a failure series.
Another Disney Fail was Space Jam kicking Goofy Movie's ass despite many people who grew up with Space Jam acknowledging that it was indeed a bad movie that aged horribly which also explains why no one who grew up with the first film was hyped for Space Jam 2.
A big part of this entire decade is growing up to realize that it was shitty. The only things that stand the test of time during this decade was the explosion of the gaming revolution inventing immediate classic characters like Mario, Sonic, Mega Man, Doom Guy, etc.

That's surprising because many people thought Goof Troop was lame. People have a cult following for the Goofy Movies but the series that started it, Goof Troop, I remember people dismissing it. The whole trying to be modern and hip and cool is seriously NOT Disney's thing. The only compliment I will give Goof Troop is that it didn't try to be seen as cool as other examples like Yo Yogi Bear. But still the whole Goofy is a father with a modern son who likes to be all about skateboards, listening to rocking music, etc that was a bit much. And the Goofy Movies upped that element to eleven.

Still think that Aladdin was the better Disney Afternoon Show. Showing Aladdin fighting a multitude of villains was actually great some of which became fan favorites. So much so that if they were reimagined as theatrical villains they would totally work out well.
That aside Gargoyles also wasn't too terrible. Like that is you won't feel embarrassed in watching that show compared to other Disney cartoons like Kimpossible or as it should be called Mary Sue And Her Bumbling Beta Lamer.

It's not even about what era you grew up in, humans are attracted to cool stuff. Do you think The Matrix is popular because it helped people think? No, it was the cool factor. Humans like COOL.

You would've thought they'd do it, and others like Darkwing Duck, but then again they never even promoted the HD version of RR or GT. RR likely only got a Blu-ray release due to the movie.
I had hoped more would be remastered, especially those that look really shitty, like Gargoyles. All the dark scenes are terrible quality.
Where was Molly's dad?
Why was Rebecca single? Did her husband die in a war? Were they divorced? Why was she a single bear mom?
Also did she and Baloo ever do the horizontal mambo?

Out of the 65-episode syndicated Disney Afternoon shows, TaleSpin probably had the best consistent quality. Sure, the Molly-focused episodes were garbage, but most of the rest are still quality. Time Waits for No Bear, I Only Have Ice for You, Vowel Play, Bearly Alive, For a Fuel Dollars More, On a Wing and a Bear, The Balooest of the Bluebloods, A Baloo Switcheroo, Double or Nothing, War of the Weirds, The Time Bandit, For Whom the Bell Klangs, Gruel and Unusual Punishment, Pizza Pie in the Sky, Mach One for the Gipper, Stuck on You, The Road to Macadamia, and Your Baloo's in the Mail are all top notch comedy.
Also, Cape Suzette looks amazing. Kinda 50's deco style with waterfalls everywhere.

I liked the way Disney handled that, actually. Avoided an awkward situation by having everyone be too polite to acknowledge the situation existed. Propriety is almost a lost art these days.
