I caught a good chunk of the movie on TV a few weeks ago. The whole time I was thinking the characters probably looked good in 2D/concept but the transition to 3D/final cut just didn't translate well.

It is interesting to see a genre deconstruction straight from the horse's mouth, although I think they beat us over the head with it. Its also nice to see a horror movie, or at least a horror themed movie that can go way out without things like the limitations live action gives you.

The secondary cast was pretty annoying and I didn't particularly want any of them to live. They reminded me a lot of the Furious Five in that respect.

That is also the interesting part of xavier's deconstruction is that its pretty much straight from the horses mouth. We could easily assume this is some insight into how me made those trashy movies. One thing I did appreciate is that after it becomes a jello giant eldritch monster it is headed for the gate. Just finished the movie and holy fuck I hate this piece of shit character like you wouldn't believe. Meta humor in horror is so fucking cancer I almost couldn't finish because of it. It gets so obnoxious halfway through the movie that it obliterates any semblance of immersion and tension the movie may have had going and they don't even try to subvert the genre or come up with an unique spin or do something different, you can tell they just gave up like on when writting Dan's change of heart, it's the most generic by-the-books horror slop flick with the most overused tropes for underdeveloped brains to indulge in and nothing about it aside Gracie is memorable or interesting. It's the pinnacle of MID.

I like the designs and animation but the actual movie itself isn't really engaging enough for anyone double digit age. Doesn't help that 90% of the cast is genuinely unlikable/annoying shitheads that aren't entertaining. Gracie and Dan are literally the only characters I enjoyed. I get you, a lot. On an extended hiatus myself. There is no such thing as "too late" to get back into drawing. And the best thing about it, is it's actually EASIER to pick the craft back up, then it was to start practicing. Because you spent years looking at the art of others, and definitely have been analyzing the techniques. When you get back to it, you will KNOW what to do, even if your hand+eye coordination isn't quite there.
