Does the Klasky Csupo artstyle even exist anymore?
Say what you want about their shows but in terms of art, the Klasky Csupo style has to be one of the most iconic and unique in all of animation history.
But after the 2000s it also seemed like the style just... died? Why are there no copycats?

There were some copycats back in the day, like "Mike, Lu, and Og", "Movile Mysteries", and "Generation O". Honestly we don't see that style anymore cause of how generic all modern cartoons in general are, they're either beanmouth, riggedslop, or both. It wasn't even the best 90's style, IMO the superior popular 90's cartoon artstyle was the wacky one you'd see edgier shows like Ren & Stimpy and Rocko using.

it always felt a bit wrong to me that this company almost single handedly kept nickelodeon afloat for like a decade and nick just tossed em out like trash

>Why are there no copycats?
Because by the 2010's, Klasky-Csupo's art style was apparently too distinctive and too much effort for several recent animators. The same animators got accustomed to simple, generic art styles that are easily rigged into 2D puppets as cost-cutting, time-saving moves to crank out episodes quickly.

One could also blame the cable networks (Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, Cartoon Network) for imposing strict deadlines with limited budgets and animation schools for not teaching that recent crop of animators to develop similarly distinctive art styles like in previous decades. Pic related was the result of this mess.

Looking back, even though most Nicktoons and Klasky-Csupo's art style weren't my cup of tea, I appreciate how that studio went out of its way to have a unique art style. It also sucks that their only recent shows were Poppy Cat (2011 - 2016) and that Rugrats reboot (2021 - Present).

Even still, we had an entire generation that either grew up or heard of their shows back in the day but none have tried to come up with a spiritual successor to it.
It's also interesting you brought up 90s cartoon styles since Spumco or Matt Groening still receive clones to this day.

I liked ATBG. I still remember how mad I got about the episode of Carl running a food cart.

I don't feel like the work of one specific studio can be referred to as a style that can be "copied"
The closest is, I dunno, the Jumanji cartoon? It's like asking "why are there no new Alex Toth style cartoons?" It's too specific

Klasky had a way of doing caricatures that surprisingly, never felt like it crossed the line.
You can clearly tell when a character is meant to be Asian or Black but it's still done so tastefully.

Also that Jumanji show was sort of Klasky Csupo styled.

But that's what makes it cool. It wasn't afraid to take risks with its designs.

But they clearly toned down the ugliness here when Thornberries became a series.

It exists...in the Soviet Union. As a matter of fact, that's where the art style originated from.

Thornberries was initially developed as an adult series, so the designs being more grotesque made sense. Nigel was the main character.

oh ok
Well, Csupó was born in Hungary, and Klasky is of easter-european jewish descent, so I guess there would influences.
