I don't think there's a single shipper alive who feels like they were well serviced by canon. Either the ship was teased and nothing more, or made canon and then squandered.

Remember when people lost their shit at Rosemary becoming canon, and then we literally never got to see a single scene of Rose and Kanaya actually being romantic with each other? The next scene we get after their kiss is Rose being a drunk hornses ass and Kanaya kicking Can Town in anger. Remember when Davesprite/Jade was a thing that started and ended completely off-screen? Remember when dead John and dead Vriska briefly dated in a dream-bubble completely off-screen? Remember when Davekat was made ambiguously canon completely off-screen? Remember when Dirk/Jake was a thing and any sort of romantic yaois between them happened completely off-screen?

Hussie just doesn't care about romance, period. He in fact seems to deeply loathe the very notion of it. All that romance means to him is some vague coupling of characters to happen completely outside of the story itself. If it isn't grist for his perpetually irony-poisoned snark-train, he doesn't care about it.

We never even got a scene where the 4 beta kids all met up, not once. Not ever. Not even a platonic friendly group hug was given to us. That would have been too consolating, too much payoff for years and tens of thousands of words of set-up. He hamstrung his own narrative by making any kind of romantic attachment be shunted off-screen, and not even for the sake of pacing, cause lord knows we had tons of long meandering conversations that served fuck-all in service of advancing the plot. There's just something about Hussie that makes him violently spurn any notion of having any sort of sincerity or poignancy or legitimate pay-off in his writing, save for the briefest snippets.

This is the main issue with Hussie's writing, and it extends far beyond romance. He has absolutely zero idea about how to write a satisfying payoff in any form or fashion. His idea of a payoff is spending a laborious amount of time setting up dominoes and then skipping to the end where the dominoes are already tipped over.
Hell, you can see this in the way the final battle happens. So much fucking time is spent going over the stupid plan to finally take down all of the threats. Tons of time goes into explaining who is going where, what everyone is doing and the order it will be done in. And then what happens in Collide? They do it. They just. Fucking do it. This goes against every single fucking rule of writing. It's utterly antithetical to a payoff. If you're going to spend so much time talking about what you're going to do, then everyone is just gonna know what the fuck happens. It makes it so boring as to render the entire thing pointless. Go back and look at literally every single piece of media in which a plan is hatched. Either the plan will be glossed over and not be explained, as to make the actual events that happen exciting, OR the plan that gets explained will blow up in their face and they'll need to improvise and adapt, leading to tension and excitement. Homestuck does neither of these things. It just fucking sets up the dominoes and then skips right to the end.

Problem is that Hussie baked in the climax years ahead of time by having to have it be animated long before he ever got to that part of the story, so I think he just spun his wheels for as long as he could while the whole thing was in production, and then when it was finally done he said, "right, here we are, The End, wrap it up."
