It is actually the only thing that makes sense.
Like think about it, if it was actually common practice to send Saiyan children on lone missions to conquer planets, then that would mean there should be more Saiyan survivors.

There's a huge difference between trying to protect someone even if you know there's nothing you can do to defend yourself, and playing Hero when you have the strongest powers in the planet.

Currently, we are in Death Battle '25, with no Sonic episodes so far and a mostly amazing lineup of fights. Sure, Death Battle '24 had Bowser VS Eggman, but it's kinda hard to count four episodes as a "season", and its episode lineup is still weaker than 10 and '25 anyways.

I actually thought the animation for Kratos vs. Asura was good. I know a lot of people had problems with it, but I thought it was great.

Even if you disagree about Asura losing, given the power gap between the two it makes sense for Kratos to take little damage. It also put Kratos in some kind of a mentor or elder role to Asura, and let Kratos show how far he had come by defeating someone who had been down the same path as him. He wasn't just fighting Asura, he was TEACHING Asura. And I think that's very heartwarming in a way. That Kratos would take the lessons he learned and help someone who was just like him.

If this weren't a Death Battle I'm sure they would have ended cordially and taught each other well. The alternate ending is weird, even if heartwarming in its own way. It was nice to see Kratos reunite with his daughter, but it feels weird to have him just stand there and take that punch.

I haven't played Asura's game though (but after watching this fight I think I might watch a playthrough!) so I might be missing stuff but as a big GoW fan I thought they did Kratos justice and from what I saw they treated Asura with the utmost respect. What character has ever gotten an alternate ending made just for them?

It's a combination of few things:
1. Fanboy bias. For a lot of peoplem, it seems the enjoyment of a series and it's power have a weird relationship. So, once you bring in the crossover aspect of vs debates, people saying the other guy wins makes their brain think everyone is saying the other character is 'better'.
2. People just don't understand how rediculous the numbers they give actually are. Unless you've got experience flying a jet, you probably never experienced what it's like to be Mach 1. So Mach 1 gets treated as the baseline superhuman speed (which is where you get stuff like Nardofags trying to find a way to cope around Soundfags being a major threat in Part 1). This again applies to higher speed, so to a lot of vs debates it goes like sound->lightning->light despite how large the gaps between those are. And then you throw in crossover stuff. People don't like the idea of main character from one series relagated to a mid level fighter or even a jobber in another setting. So, everyone tries to get their guys as high as possible without understanding how stupid the numbers themselves are getting.
