I would agree with you about it being bad if they just kept making regular Adventure Time sans Jake, but all this new content is stuff not Finn and Jake related and it looks like they'll never go back to that again (Side Quests is a whole different thing). When the show is focusing on Fionna, Simon, or Huntress Wizard Jake being alive or dead doesn't really matter.

Rewatching season 1 now. The opening theme and animation in that better fits the story and gives you a cutesy look into what Fionna's life is, and it does it very well. The song also gets across how her life and struggles feel. My compliments to whoever did that.

Season 2's opening is just as good, but in very different ways. The song is very energetic and exciting and fun, with hints of mystery and the unknown. The animations are very actiony and cool, and make me want to see what happens with HW. Very "boyish" which is something of a departure for AT, fun but not really great at getting the story or it's feeling across to the viewer at all, doesn't capture the feelings of anything so far aside from HW's singular fight. Overall not really as good of an opening in that regard, but still tons of fun to listen to and it really does build hype.
