Fandom culture in general is concentrated faggotry. Because drawthreads are babysat and requesters are coddled, art requests have gotten way out of hand. A lot of the requesters will start a whole new thread about some character and keep it bumped for weeks in the hopes that drawfags will drop by and fulfill more requests. Most of the requests are sexual, and those are really hard to pull off well.
A lot of threads on any given day are like this. People may not realize, but drawfags are needy fuckers too, so they do show up sometimes. It doesn't matter horrible they are. People will always be there to praise and defend them. So you're left with a bunch of shitty art that gets reposted over and over. People obsess more over this than over the official stuff, which is just baffling when the fanart is deviantart-tier.
So, basically, drawfags have brought down the quality of the board significantly, but they did it with a lot of help.
