I think the problem with that argument arises when you realize an awful lot of people already feel they don't belong in the real world, Anon. This is the same reason isekai fantasies are so popular in Japan. In current year there are an ever increasing number of people who do actually hate reality and their real lives and wouldn't miss them. There are a lot of potential causes and things to blame for that, but no amount of soul-searching changes the fact that people feel that way.
