Dumptruck is a bit of a funny one, as I initially thought it was a bit of a dumb term, but I can kind of appreciate its use if it's for more shameless chicks, as seen with the many variations of that "Oh this? My booty?" meme.
Has anybody ever put together a comprehensive list of terms for ass? Feels like it'd be fun to see, compiled, maybe even figuring out an order for all of them. In my personal opinion, butt would be the first, as it's the most general term out there, and can even apply to a keister that may not be particularly notable. Then as you go down the list, something like "rump" would probably be before "booty", being a sizeable rear, but not quite yet in the territory of that term. Badonkadonk I'd say would be after booty, almost like an elevated version if you will.

A big ass is a booty, even bigger is a badonkadonk, and while dumptruck is often used comically, it still paints a pretty BIG picture. Like, imagine if a chick had an ass that was actually as wide (or WIDER) than an actual dumptruck. Or even if she doesn't actually, it's the comparison to such a big vehicle that suggests the size.
Then, before booty I'd say it'd probably be ass, before that, butt, and then continuing on, it would be rump, rear, tush.
Maybe it kinda depends on each term's like... connotation? A badonkadonk is BIG, while a rear seems just kinda factual (like, yup, she's got a rear end alright).

I can see what you mean. Though I would say ass/butt are somewhat interchangeable, if only because they are the most commonplace of any words for rear end, and definitely have a mixed level of tameness and lewdness between them. On one hand, some people find ass to be vulgar, though on the other, it does seem to depend on the context of its use like you said. Likewise, butt is tamer, but can have a certain lewdness to it when spoken in a particular context.
When it gets to rump, rear, and tush, those do seem be fairly equal, if only because they're probably the most innocuous terms, along with things tuchus or bum.
I guess really any of those (even ass in certain cases) can be used to describe a girl who just has a normal looking backside, even if it's not particularly shapely or notable.
Obviously, it gets tricky when talking about truly pathetic looking asses, like ones that could rival Hank Hill's, though those do seem to be rare, at least in my opinion. I'm more forgiving towards smaller rears, so long as they have some shape to them and aren't concave or really off looking (that one anime with the muscular chick who had an ass that looked like someone dented the sides is one such example), even if the girl is fairly flat but has a nice rear, I can appreciate that (Fuu from Samurai Champloo is one such example).

Phat is an interesting term since it does seem to be in the same area as terms like booty and bandonkadonk, but not overly large, just of a scale that it truly stands out.
