Fantasy settings can have good TSF content, but my white whale dream stories only really in a modern/scifi setting.

Give me an ensemble cast of characters that turn into girls one by one over the course of the story. Give me guys trying to avoid all contact with women for fear of catching the girl-flu, or having panic attacks when their little brother comes home from school with a cough. Give me a man fucking his genderswapped best friend, knowing that he'll catch it too. Give me a typhoid mary figure going around spreading it on purpose. Give me regular news reports from newscasters reporting on the global spread that start the story male and end the story female.

If you're talking about what the cause of the transformation is, fantasy/magic tends to work better (and is my preference) than sci-fi stuff outside of the 'TSF drug/virus', which is the only sci-fi I feel works well.

If we're talking out the setting where the story takes place, fantasy I find tends to be very hit or miss unless it's an isekai or if the TSF is combined with a reality shift/change (so the normal world becomes a fantasy world). Sci-fi settings tend to be mixed, since a lot of them when the show up in TSF tend to just wind up being "our world with full body VR or nanotechnology" or something that's really basic.

I will say one of the most interesting settings that I've seen for a story was a fantasy/sci-fi mash up CYOA, in which a fairy got put in charge of some space resort town/city and had to repopulate it by magical teleporting humans in and magically transforming them to fit in. It was really interesting to see the mix of transformations that happened in it.

You know, that would be a pretty good concept for a manga. Woman who was raped develops sex change drugs and uses it to act like easy prey for womanizers and pickup artists, and then drugs them into women and fucks them silly as a futa as 'punishment'. Each arc is based around targetting and entrapping a specific man in a game of cat and mouse until the reversal comes and so does she. You just need to make each man progressively even more of a bastard than the last guy, so that the MC still comes off as the good one in this situation despite being what is essentially a serial rapist.

It could work, the real problem is that AI in its current form has zero retained memory. Even when using a character lora for a specific look, it will frequently change its mind as to how a person's hair or clothes work. It is basically coming up with the idea for what a character looks like 'from scratch' every time.

So making the guy is easy. Making the girl who looks like a female version of the guy is slightly less easy, you just have to keep regenerating the prompt until you get one you like. But after that, even with in-painting (a tool that says 'only change the parts of the image inside this part of the picture') changing details of an existing image is like pulling teeth. You'll need to use photoshop to smooth over the rough edges and such to have any hope of it looking good, though if the transition is fast enough the rough parts of the in-between frames might go by so fast no one notices.

Honestly? Hard disagree nowadays. Two years ago yeah I'd look at AI pics and find maybe 1 in 1000 that I'd think at the time was worth saving, and 2023 to the start of 2025 I think I found two pics total I ended up fapping to. Nowadays though AI at least with those who try seems to have pulled itself out of uncanny valley and is scoring a more respectable hit rate with me, which is great for me as it feels like human artists rarely ever do the style of pics I like while AI artists do them all of the time.
I'd still choose a human artist doing the same pic vs an AI doing it 100% of the time, but it feels like humans have completely abandoned me so I'm glad AI exists now.

I'm more of a fantasy guy since I find it easier to suspend my disbelief with magic than with science; however, this is mostly the case with TSF, not the other varieties of genderswap stories. For body swap, I generally prefer a modern or sci-fi setting with technology as the reason for the swap. This is not to say that I don't like fantasy body swap, I love picrel, which is a fantasy body swap. I just prefer body swaps with modernity as the setting. Possession is in a similar boat, but I do like time travel isekai-like stuff where the protag possesses a woman in the past. For skinsuits, that tends to only be modern from what I can find, with exceptions like skinsuit fanworks of fantasy series.

There's a concept I one day want to run in a TTRPG where I have my players sneak into a "city of women" through TSF means to uncover an artifact or do some sort of task. Sisters of Dorley. It's not exactly porn, and yes it's written by a trans woman and the main character is a trans woman, but the book is literally about arsehole men forced to live as incredibly hot women.
