multitoolfags are worse than knifefags

invest in a 12" canvas tool bag and put tools in it that you actually use, and keep it in your vehicle. nothing in your life will be so critical that you need to carry a philips screw driver in your fucking pocket. if you're working on something, you should have your tool bag with you

You should have a Klein 11-in-1 and some pair of slip joint and/or water pump pliers in your pocket plus your EDC knoife on rhe belt at all times, so multitools are kinda useless…

…but, if you’re really wanting a multitool for some reason, go Leatherman Wave or Wave+ if you’re going to use the wire cutters a lot. The bit driver set for the Wave is somehwhat useful, especially for a multitool, it has a one handed open knife, and if’s not overloaded with useless crap like 3 types of cheese knives.

It’s convenient to have some simple tools on you when you’re out and about.
If you’re hanging with your friends and need a bottle opened or a knife to peel some fruit or something you’ll look like a fucking goober if you run to your truck to grab your fucking go-bag.

Only delusional EDCfags are suggesting using a multi-tool for anything non-trivial outside of a very unlikely emergency.

The bolts and the PTO pin missing the keeper just so happened to be in my pocket that day from working on something. It's a random assortment of hardware in there usually. I empty my pockets into my nightstand drawer until it gets full of random shit, and then I sort it back into the bolt bins for another go-round.

pst1 by Leatherman,
no bullshit safety crap, most of those safety latches make the knife a lot more dangerous, no margin for error on them it is either perfectly safe or it will damage you, the pst1 uses over rotation and flexible steel huge margin that can overcome the dust and mud that gets all over it. they are illegal today because of ambulance chasering lawyers.
i used to daily, but then the anniversary announcement came out and the value of the knife was announced immediately locked that shit in the bank waiting for the heat to cool down so i can take it back out.
common sense is rare in the court room.

if you're using a multitool it's because you don't have the right tool for the job and you are doing a quick field fix. I have a few leatherman waves floating around (truck, gun bag, outdoor stuff bag) and they come in handy but I don't consider them a serious tool. have a 14 foot long window sill.

Absolutely this. Multi tool fags are the fucking worst. I work in a plant doing general maintenance. Some where between pipe fitter and mill wright. Sometimes when the guy that I normally work with is out they'll either send me a helper from another site or find me an intern hiding in one of the offices and some of these dorks feel the need to bring their survival role-play onto the jobsite.

Needed to repack a couple gate valves. I grabbed a wrench, a flat screwdriver, a pick, the roll of packing and a knife. The guy they sent me said he knows all about valves so ok have at fucker. It's not like this is some complex highly guarded witchcraft. So I have all the tools he needed and instead he reaches in his pocket, pulls out his wallet, opens it and pulls put this card monstrosity with slots on it and puts it on the valve. It's some kind of multi wrench bullshit and he tries to use it to take the nuts off. That shit was too good. I repacked the other valve while he struggled with it. They were studs too, not eye bolts/rod ends like you might see on larger valves so once he managed to squeeze that piece of shit in there the whole stud started spinning on him. That's when I had to step in, because he pulled one of those multi tool needle nose pliers and was going to use that to hold the back nut and I wasn't going to let him leave teeth marks on my valve.

Another one used one of those to cut all the metal banding off some pallets. There's like 3 or 4 different sets of bull dogs on the bench in the bay where the warehouse guys drop our pallets. Then the fucking guy lifts his multi took up next to his face, smiles at me and shakes it like he's in some fucking commercial. 1st time in my life I actually wanted to commit a hate crime against someone for being a homosexual.

I've had to stop people from using them at least a dozen times. The only thing that isn't shit is the knife, you can get a regular knife that's easier to open and hold.

I've got a Schrade ST1 Tough multi-tool that I found when I was cleaning out my dad's garage after he died. I never saw it before, and I never saw him use it. It's made in USA, so looks like it must have been from 1997-2004 since the "new" version you can buy is made in China. I like it because it feels like a full-size set of pliers when unfolded; so the grip is really comfy. I keep it in the glove compartment of my car.

There’s two things wrong with multitools:
1) EDC/larpers/redditors who just consoom them as a prosthetic for their nonexistent masculinity.
2) Autists who insist that you can’t ever do anything without carrying some huge set of specialized tools around.
Other than that, they’re really neat for their purpose.

That's only because about 95% will never see real use so you'd never know the wire cutters on the pliers will chip if you cut anything larger than 18 gauge copper or that you'll bend the knife if you try to use it to puncture a can so you can use the can opener.

the one you have in reach when you need it.
i got a victorinox tinkers one when i was 16, and the Philips head screwdriver works well enough for 90% of the odd screws i need to tighten or loosen at work.

if it has an m2.5 hex head then it would fit 100% of the screws i deal with at work on the average week.

give it an ethernet punchdown key bit and i could avoid heading back to the support desk until lunchtime.

once did an entire school switchboard swap out with it just to avoid going back through the school since i would have had to have called up the maintenance guy to escort me 2 minutest to my car since i didn't have a WWVP card at the time.

Leatherman squirt or the similarly sized victorinox ones that fit on a key chain. Anything bigger is goober tier and too heavy to carry around every day relative to how poorly the tiny tools perform, but having a tiny screwdriver or knife comes in handy from time to time and if its small enough to take up no space and weighs nothing you might actually have it with you at a time when it might be handy.

As a part of one's dress.. for unplanned stuff ?

Because if I already have a diy in mind,
I'd rather gather up the tools (and fasteners) I think I need and take them to the diy.

Eg: Replacing some rusty screws and a gate hinge from a side-gate with a multitool sounds like a right ball-ache.

When choosing an EDC multitool, the first thing you have to separate out are any that don't have tritium slots.Tritium is practically nonglowing in anything but total pitch blackness, but having tools with installed tritium vials will make your dick twice as big in both length and girth.

- Tritium vial for extra tritium goodness

Multitools are turbo aspie, bulky, and largely unnecessary to carry daily. I carry a simple Milwaukee fastback box cutter with the screwdriver and it is honestly the best EDC you could ask for, small, bare bones useful, and the blade is always razor sharp.

A 40 year old leatherman if you can find it, check pawnshops and garage sales, if you compare a really old one with new ones you'll see a huge difference in construction quality, material, connections, tool locks, all so much better.
If you're buying a brand new multitool just get the cheapest one you can find, they're all chinkshit that'll break soon.

I really like the Swisstool Spirit. I used to work in a job where having a multitool was very handy and tried a bunch before settling on the Spirit. It's noticeably higher quality than modern Leatherman stuff, all the tools open from the outside, has a good locking mechanism, and some of the individual tools in it are very well designed and useful. (Like the sharp scraper thing, the large flathead that makes a way better prybar than LM ones, better Phillips, scissors, etc.) It's also very slim compared to LMs with similar tools. The only real downsides are that it doesn't have one-handed opening and that the knife blade is kinda shit but I always have a regular folding knife in my pocket and the multitool is a supplement that I only carry sometimes when I think I might need it. (I keep one in my motorcycle tank bag, one in my truck center console, one in my backpack when I've got that, one in my work tool belt, etc.)

Bought the Fastback.

Here's Anons review.

It's aight.

The clip had to be Plired into shape to snag onto my pocket. The Push button to Flip to open is ridiculously obtrusive and a gimmick, once you press the button, the blade and it's holder swing like a kid on a tire swing and won't stop until you release the button. After timing it a few times every day, I finally got the jist of getting it Everytime. The bottle opener is nice. The Extra Blade Holder is great. The Bit is Deece, Had a Jawn need a Philips Head for a loose table Leg and it did the job. The Plastic used for it is very brittle if you exert alot of force on it.(Just don't shove it against any hard places for any reasons, Also don't use as a hammer)

Leathermans have a bulky design, yes. No clip means it’s flopping around in your pocket.. getting stuck sideways in the bottom.. too long. The smaller leathermans seem ok, if you had a use for scissors or pliers that often… but I can’t imagine what that would be.
>carry it on a belt clip
I’m not wearing a belt pouch everyday.
Leatherman is stuck in the past because they HAVE to design all their tools around the plier. Ironically their best innovation lately has been the flat bits and a decent ratcheting extender… both tools that exist to work around the limitations of their underlying design, and coincidentally end up being useful in other situations.

Retarded redditor thing to say. The construction on the new leathermans is great, and this is coming from a leatherman hater. I doubt very much you’ve even actually used one of the new ones that aren’t the cheaper, edcfag models.
>an actual, honest to god, Made in the US company puts together something well built… and the faggots who always cry about this stuff are too busy larping to appreciate it.
Sounds about right. You losers don’t seriously want to pay premium for a quality, domestically produced good. You just want to repeat the fashionable in-group memes but get chinkshit prices the same as anyone else.

What's the point of multitools?
They're heavy and awkward to use as knives or screwdrivers, weight just enough and are large enough to make them taking it with you something to consider. Seriously, my compact screwdriver set plus a folding knife is much nicer to use.

For serious work, I just bring out my regular tools.

In the past few years I have never been in a scenario when the multitool was the best thing for the job.

>why would i carry a multitool i just carry multiple tools
There's some irony here I'm sure.
>what's the point
I don't have room in my back pocket for two kinds of pliers, a screwdriver set, scissors, and a couple of knives and even if I somehow did I wouldn't want to carry all that bullshit all the time anyway. I do have room for a multitool that does an okay job at all of that without being a burden, so I carry it.
>for serious work i just bring regular tools
Same. I encounter enough situations where it makes sense for me to carry a multitool for small issues/fixes where it didn't make any sense to bring a full toolkit for things that I didn't know about in advance. Even when I leave my real toolbox in my vehicle if it's something the multitool can handle I'd rather just pull it out of my pocket and get it done than go fetch a bunch of tools or the entire barge-ass box, a trip usually coincidentally involving 3 flights of stairs and half a block through a downpour because that's how things are on this bitch of an earth.
>ive never been in a scenario when it was the best for the job
Because it never is, but it's often good enough and that's a luxury that saves on other time or inconveniences. If you don't have a use for a multitool then of course there's no reason to carry one; continue not doing so.
>cutting fruit
Agreed. Would not use a "tool" tool for any kind of food prep with all the weird bullshit they get exposed to but then I also don't tend to slice or peel fruits either. Maybe split the rind of an orange or something but still would overwhelmingly just wait until I was in a suitable environment like a kitchen (or prepare it in the kitchen in advance) rather than goop up a folder.

Knife is one I bought off Temu. Long been sold out/discontinued. I have pretty good luck with cheap knives. First thing I do is disassemble them and loctite all the screws and re-tighten them down good. Here's something similar on there that I would consider buying. Look for a folding cleaver pocket knife as your search terms and you should be able to find something similar on temu or ebay.

Holster is a pretty generic leather holster for a M&P shield off e-bay. Holsterworld I think is who I bought that one from. I wet formed some leather around my gerber tool and stitched the sheath for it onto the holster myself.

That is an "armored case" for an aluminum barreled sharpie that I turned out of some hex stock. I would absolutely destroy the barrel on those sharpies doing my daily tasks, and I love having a sharpie on me at all times. The plastic barreled ones actually fared better in my pocket, but I'd crack the housings on them after a while too. I just put a drop or two of super glue on a sharpie and slip it in the housing. If it dries up I can unscrew the top part and put another marker head on that barrel, or if the threads of the aluminum barrel get fucked up I can heat the whole thing with a small torch and push the entire thing out using a punch through an extraction hole at the end. Pic rel.

No problem man. I just re-read what I wrote and noticed I had put "here's something similar on there that I would consider buying" and I ended up not putting a link to it because I was sure 4chan would think I was a bot and flag the post as spam...

But yeah, go on Temu or Ebay and put EDC, Tactical, Folding Cleaver, etc as your search terms. You'll be able to find something similar for cheap. Pull it apart and loctite the screws and abuse the shit out of it without feeling bad. If you like it, buy several more before they get discontinued and keep them on hand to swap out when you wear them down to nubs or inevitably break one...

My work knives get a Delta 1x30 belt sander sharpening any time they start to get a bit dull. In 30 seconds or so I can put a nice edge on that will last me another month or so. I always sharpen before working calves so I can cut bulls with a nice sharp knife. If its something fancy I might break out the Lansky or another similar Chinese sharpening system off of Temu once again.

I have a hate love relationship with multitools. Only thing I really carry is a Classic SD and a Olight i1R 2 Pro on my keys.
I bought a SOG powerpint like 4 days ago at 3am that's going to take like 2 weeks to show up since it's the only thing small enough I might actually carry.
I just wish I could get a Leatherman Mini with a flat head, knife blade and a pair of victorinox scissors. Can't replace a pair of pliers if you need them, and even if you got rid of the extension liners it wouldn't really matter since whenever I used a full size multitool, the pliers are still shit compared to actual ones. Main thing I use victorinox scissors is for injuries, nothing cuts skin flaps off better.

I carried one for almost two decades, they're alright, the scissors are garbage because of their flexibility, the knife blade holds a decent edge, never had much use for the tweezers, but the small flat screwdriver and the flat philips are the best tools on the micra, my over all assessment is that it's not worth the current asking price but it you can get one cheap it's alright
