I'm looking to diy graft some old apple trees I've got onto new rootstocks.
What are the advantages or disadvantages of grafting vs chip budding. if you know some good links to learn more in depth about the topic I'd appreciate it, I found a few US extension service websites that had some limited content and wanted to read a bit deeper into tree physiology and behaviour.
On a related note I have a neglected tree that developed very lopsidedly, But I've cut out the oak that was shading it so it should be happier. I wondered if it would be possible to stimulate a new shoot on the now exposed side or whether I could graft on a couple of shoot taken from the active side onto the neglected side to generate some branches to balance it out?
>>2928347Not sure what it is but, cut it, burn it, spray regrowth with a systematic herbicide.

How can I increase the splitting power of my gas-powered log splitter?
It has an 8HP Briggs engine, and a 2-stage 11GPM pump.
the bore is roughly 4" and the stroke is 60"
Right now, it can't split hardwood like hickory or oak.
>>2928414What are the options for the hydraulic piston? Is that something you can swap out on those? Because an extra inch or two bore on that piston will give you a ton more power, at the cost of the splitter running slower.
>>2928426>can swap out on thoseNo, that is too much trouble and will be costly.
I'm wondering if getting a beefier pump and removing the governor on the engine would improve things.
The engine has a max RPM of 3,600 with the governor in place and the pump says max RPM is 3,600.
I not well verse in hydraulics. Is it the bore and GPM that defines tonnage?
There is a guy renting a 37-ton log splitter for $50 a day, I am considering getting that to split all this hickory.
>>2928410not canadian but I guess it's very much the same
>cut them down before they bloom >then take a pitch fork and carve out the ground around their roots, pull them out. the roots are deep, and they spread tried that last year to no avail, they're still there and I think there are even more than before
>>2928410Retarded advice.
Common thistle has an incredibly low germination rate. The seeds are almost useless.
It spreads primarily from vegetative fragments. Every peice of root or stem on the soil is going to grow.
>>2928449The problem is bigger pump + bigger engine = more pressure I believe, so you better double check to make sure the rest can handle it.
I suggested bigger bore piston because in the armchair physics equation Iโm doing, thatโs the best way to get more powahh without having to increase the strain on everything else.
Iโm guessing itโs a combination of all of them that defines tonnage, piston size, pump, powerplant, PSI, GPM
>>2928449>Is it the bore and GPM that defines tonnage? No, it's the bore and _pressure_ that defines force.
Force = pressure * area
Flow rate (GPM) only dictates speed. A larger bore on the ram gets you more area (thus more force) for the hydraulic fluid to act on, or, conversely, using a higher pressure in the hydraulic system gets you more pressure acting on the same area (thus more force).
The latter is easier (when possible), but you can't just go increasing pressure arbitrarily. The hoses, fittings, seals, and ram were only designed for a specific maximum. Unless you can find actual part numbers to look up or pressure ratings stamped on the cylinder, it's probably a safe bet to assume the pump is already set to work near or at the rating of the ram. If, by some fluke, the ram is rated for more than it's currently operating at, great, you can replace anything that isn't rated for the higher pressure you want and just do that. If not, do not risk it. Hydraulic fluid under several thousand PSI of pressure is no joke, and not something to fuck around with. Go look up "fluid injection injury". It's not pretty, and flailing around blindly, not knowing what you're doing, is not a good way to avoid it.
Odds are good you're going to be stuck just getting a bigger ram. There's no real way to cheat the basic physics here, so either hit up some surplus sites and get the welder out or trade out for an entirely different splitter. Mind, also, that the existing frame might not fare well with a more powerful ram, so...
>>2928486>bigger pump + bigger engine = more pressure I believeWhy do namefags insist on posting when they outright admit they don't know what they're talking about? Truly the great mystery of our time.

Does anybody make a decent spray bottle that doesn't suck fat cocks?
Every brand and make I've tried they either don't "refill" and the trigger goes dead after the first few sprays out of the box, the nozzle itself leaks with every spray unless its fully screwed closed, in one case the threads for the bottles and the sprayer itself were different thread patterns
>>2928502Oi vey, think about the system youโre talking about.
Bigger engine + bigger pump with the same piston = more pressure going through all of those lines. Thatโs the point, itโs going to strain every other part of the system.
Bigger bore = more force without increasing the pressure on the system, itโs the same thing your longpost said, basic physics, except I didnโt go shit on somebody for saying the exact same thing.
Read a little more. I agree with you, bigger bore is the only logical way to go without having to replace every other component.
>>2928591The better Zep ones are ok. The rest of them pretty much suck. The super cheap ones, the plastic cracks on the sprayer part right at the neck of the bottle. And even the better built ones stop spraying well, but some silicone lube can salvage them sometimes.
For stuff I actually use quite a bit, I go with the pump ones. Home Depot has the HDX ones, the handheld is just under 1/2gal and I think only costs like $2 more than the decent Zep 32oz sprayers. And then thereโs 1gal and 2gal models with the wands for like $15. Those pump sprayers by far have the best spray-stream control too, any of the 32oz basic sprayers will tire your hand out quick if youโre trying to spray a fine mist for more than a couple pumps.
I had one of the 56oz HDX fail sort of prematurely, and I think it was from leaving a corrosive cleaner in there for a couple months that beat up the chrome plated pump rod, thatโs it.

The internet is a hell of an invention. Iโve been doing all these random online courses to try and get into a more technical job. I've already put a tractor muffler on to replace the shitty pepper shaker style one that came on it, it lowered the tone a bit but it's still unpleasant to be around even wearing plugs. Would a second muffler, probably a universal automotive one, quiet the sound down more, or will the single cylinder engine thing fuck with the harmonics and make it not work as well?
Are there any really good weed whacker heads for home use? Whenever the 6' of line runs out i have to stop and re-load the string obviously, but I've seen pro heads just coil up line in a matter of seconds just buy winding from the second part. Have they not yet invented a longer lasting trimmer piece than plastic quickly melting and disintegrating?

They are electric though which sucks if you have to do a lot of whacking.
I've got a variable speed lathe with a 115vdc motor. It's marked 6A single phase 1HP class B if that matters.
The motor controller went out again and I'm not buying another.
I've thought about trying to salvage the existing rectifier and using it just wire the motor to a power cord but that limits my speed options and makes it a PITA to use.
Is there any reason I can't use this controller (https://www.ebay.com/itm/335193012971) and this switch (https://www.ebay.com/itm/115606017678) to run it and be able to reverse it?

It's probably going to fail.

Just for fun, do you think I could I get a hefty bridge rectifier and wire it to the output of a router speed controller then to the motor to get some semblance of function? I'm trying to not just sell the whole setup because I'll regret it even if I dislike using it anyway, but that dislike is why I'm trying to cheap out so much in the first place.
I'm attempting to repair a faulty right channel connector for my 4.4mm MMCX IEM cable. Might any anons be willing to give some feedback? I'm going to attempt to fix itI confirmed it's the cable itself (right channel) when testing each IEM because swapping them didn't change the result, and pressing on the solder joints to the terminals could momentarily restore sound if held in just right. This is a manufacturer defect which I already received a refund for before, but it irritates me, so I want to give it a go.
I took pictures. Here is one image of the cable with the metal jacket slid downwards. Quite the ugly job; just blobs of solder, and hot glue to stabilize. From what I could see, one channel uses the outer copper strands (as a ground?), and the other uses the separate line for the right channel audio. I thought it'd be two cables for each rather than this configuration, but it seems not. I'll post another pic after this.
Here is the cable with some cable length cut at and exposed. The same for the connector terminals.
Refilling screws for DIY and I came across these. I can get 500 Simpson screws for about the same as 200 GRK screws, but why do they have the extra threaded part near the head? Don't you not want any threads there so the head provides clamping force? And the ridges right past the point, what's that about?
>>2929065They probably think it holds better or impairs splitting, idk. When the second set of threads is reversed, it's for boring out material normally with composite decking. The reverse upper thread screws are basically their own countersink, saving you a step and preventing bulging around the screw head after install.
I always reach for whatever pilot bit is handiest and have had nearly zero splits from these screws. This is into expensive, pissy people, carpentry installs.
I don't know where else to ask about this so here we go.
I want to put double bed in my bedroom, it will fit just right if I do the "traditional" arrangement with it in the middle and 2 nightstands on the sides, but honestly I'm thinking about putting it in the corner and getting more space in that room. Is that alright or does it make me look like an old bachelor?
>>2929141literally no one cares, go talk to your shrink about your pathetic insecurities
>>2928356Advantages of Grafting
Stronger Initial Union: Grafting creates a larger contact area between scion and rootstock, often leading to a more robust initial connection
Faster Growth: Grafted trees often establish more quickly because the scion includes multiple buds, allowing for more vigorous early growth compared to a single bud in chip budding.
Repair and Rejuvenation: Grafting is ideal for top-working older apple trees (replacing the canopy with a new variety), as you can graft multiple scions onto larger branches or the main trunk.
Disadvantages of Grafting
Skill and Precision: Grafting, especially whip-and-tongue, requires precise cuts and alignment to ensure cambium contact, making it more technically challenging than chip budding.
Material Requirements: Grafting often requires larger scion wood and rootstock, which may not always be readily available, especially for rare or old varieties.
Seasonal dependency: dormant season - late winter/early spring
Slower Healing in Some Cases: If not done properly, grafts can take longer to heal or fail due to poor cambium alignment or environmental stress.
Advantages of Chip Budding
Simpler Technique: Chip budding is easier to learn and perform
Less Scion Material: Only a single bud is needed, making it ideal when scion wood is limited (e.g., preserving rare or old apple varieties).
High Success Rate: When done during the right conditions (bark slipping), chip budding often has a high success rate due to active cambial growth.
Disadvantages of Chip Budding
Slower Initial Growth
Seasonal Dependency: Chip budding requires the bark to be slipping, which limits the timing to mid-to-late summer in most regions.
Weaker Initial Union
Not Ideal for Top-Working Large Trees: Chip budding is less practical for rejuvenating older trees, as itโs typically used on smaller rootstocks or branches.

>>2929060>do you think I could I get a hefty bridge rectifier and wire it to the output of a router speed controller then to the motor to get some semblance of function? The DC will be 'pulsing' instead of a steady voltage.
This may cause the motor to growl.
You already have the rectifier in the original controller so you'd only be out the $20 for the new tool controller.
For the $24 cost of the 115vac to 90vdc controller, you may want to try it.
It 'may' hold up to the motor draw and having 90vdc is better than none.
Have you considered repairing the original controller using heavier duty components?

>>2928217 (OP)Whats the point of three-phase AC mains? Apparently it's everywhere in Western Europe even in cuckbox apartments. I live in East Europe and wanted to get a solar install and had this shit forced on me. It cost a fortune to upgrade the meter, will cost me a ton to rewire the housing and figure out what load goes where, and every fucking piece of equipment costs more. And it's just a pittance of a 8kW mains connection that was enough to run a household, an electric oven and three ACs and never had any trouble with it. Apparently you can't even run three phase machinery (shit with powerful motors), because the phase shift isn't guaranteed to be within spec.
My electrician told me they don't like breakers over 25A over here for some reason.
This whole thing sounds like a retarded ripoff concocted by regulators. How it used to be is that they'd run each home from a different phase and distribute the load that way. From what I've seen on the internet, in the US/UK 3 phase in residential homes is extremely uncommon, but 60/100A breakers are the norm.

I've long been wanting to build a boat, and now that I live in a place with a lot of waterways I have no reason not to.
But I don't have a garage/workshop, and even if I had I'm obsessed with the idea of modularity, so I have the following idea:
- make multiple short foam-filled modules, each buoyant on its own;
- put a couple of boat-long centerline ropes through these modules, tension them to squish modules together;
- add a bunch of shorter ropes near the edges of the modules, connecting each pair to counteract any flexion/torsion;
- add a few dowel pins in-between modules for a bit of extra stiffness;
- have rubber gaskets at the connecting faces of the modules for water tightness.
In my imagination this should be viable for a 6m boat. And even if I fuck up some of it, each module is small and cheap enough to just re-do it from scratch, so I should be able to experiment and iterate on it without burdening myself too much.
Tell me why this idea sucks.

>>2929306I2R. A 3-phase 25A system has much smaller losses than a 1-phase 75A system because of I2R, for the equivalent conductor size (eg. 4sqmm for 3p, 10sqmm for 1p). Conversely on 3-phase you can get away with much thinner wiring.
You should be fine running 3-phase machinery, but your solar inverter might not like it, cheaper HF inverters in particular are recommended to be at least 5-7x higher power than the connected induction motors. Also might trip breakers if you only have 16A.

I have a Husqvarna zero turn mower, and the manufacturer sells an accessory hitch kit which can supposedly enable me to use their tow-behind spreader, aerator, and dethatcher. I started with the babby 3 gal, my 18V cordless inflater will pump up a car tire faster. Itโs not necessarily the 3gal capacity, but that 0.6CFM thatโs insanely frustrating. It takes 5min of noise to air up that tiny tank, and then you do one burst with the air gun to blow dust off, and youโre down to 50psi and another 4min of noise to get another burst.
It canโt inflate a mid-size SUV tire without having to recover a couple times.

Need like a waterproof putty type of material if anyone knows the name for one. Cement is just brittle and cracking in high winds. Cowel isnโt sitting in the Chimney pot right (pot is ancient, they donโt make a cowels for them). Put some rubber around the cowel and plan on slamming it down. Edge glued boards are fine, I don't have access to a thickness planer or even room for it right now or even a bandsaw with enough resaw capacity for a 5+ inch wide board.
I've found a couple but they're usually limited to 6 inch wide boards or only 2' long. The option of 1/2 or 1/8 thick boards would be nice. Needs to be 48" long though because I'm cutting them into ~16" lengths.
>>2929360Is it some kind of PTO or hydraulic system or something? Putting more of a load on your engine and increasing the amount of time you run it will increase the chance of it failing. That doesn't mean it will fail though. If you want to be responsible about it and those are things you need then you need to weight the cost between worst place scenario replacing your mower vs getting the extra equipment you need to do those jobs. You know, just common sense stuff. As long as the engine is solid and the frame wasn't welded together by a drunk chinaman with 2 fingers I would think you'd be fine with some home gamer shit, zero turns are commercial equipment so as long as you're not dogging them every day and you actually maintain them they should last. If it were me I'd be more concerned that the add-ons are of questionable quality and are just to cash in on homeowners who won't use then enough or at all to realize they don't work well. From what I know it's a decent brand so I'd imagine it's good enough for a lawn crew to use multiple times a week.

I ordered a USB-C to XT60 cable. Technically shouldn't this allow me to us my smaller power stations (300 wh) to charge my larger power station (800 wh), while it powers my 200 watt fridge? I realize I'm only going to get like 60 watts from the smaller stations, but that is very helpful in a power outage. Especially given the fridge only needs that 200 watts like half the time.
>>2929638I'm concerned about stress on the transmissions with the additional weight. The aerator and dethatcher don't weigh all that much, but they have to be weighed down with cinder blocks to work well so the weight will be pretty significant.
From what I've read elsewhere, only the commercial grade zero turns have heavy duty enough transmissions that are good enough for any serious towing, and that on a mower like mine, I'd be prematurely wearing it out by doing practically anything other than mowing with it.

Anyone know how I can setup a -reliable- misting system?
I got one of those kits that plug into the garden hose line setup on a timer. I have to change the nozzles basically every month. It's worthless.
I'll pay good money for a reliable setup at this point but I just don't know what to look for.
Something that'll last a good 2-3 years is good enough in my book.
>>2929567Yeah, I was in a hurry to get a project done so I bought it and it's exactly what you're saying. Did what I needed it to but I think I might go return it and get the 2.8CFM 6 gallon pancake instead. For my current purposes anything bigger isn't really gonna work, I need to be able to lug it up and down two flights of stairs and also store it in a relatively small space. (Bottom shelf of a workbench.)
Is dress code a hill worth dying on? Last week I had to leave a client's property because I refused to abide by their /fa/ policies and they would not let me work there otherwise even if I was wearing all the necessary PPE. There's no actual law that dictates that you have to wear long pants at work, it's just HR bullshit and I'm tired of their retardation, getting fired over this seems worthwhile. Maybe even grounds for a lawsuit.

I'm trying to attach a plate to some t-slot aluminium extrusion railing we have, but our t-slot nuts don't fit. I'm looking for decent work in an area without a ton, and there's a hydraulic company hiring apprentices. They prefer 2+ years of "mechanical experience," which I have from working at a race/track car shop in the past. They want me to have my own tools, "basic set of hand tools up to 1" size" though. Any idea what they'd consider "basic" for this job?
>>2930061I should probably add, this seems to be a shop position, rebuilding cylinders etc., not anything where I'd be dealing with the heavy equipment that uses them.
This will be a dumb question, but Iโm currently making a compass right now. I read that you can magnetize a sewing needle by rubbing it with a strong magnet a couple of times. However, will the needle be magnetized for a long time or will I have to continue rubbing it? Would it be better just buy a magnetized needle? Printing the compass too, if that matters.

>>2930061For a hydraulic shop job rebuilding cylinders I would want you showing up with basic wrenches and sockets up into larger sizes for the big cylinders (unless the big stuff is shop supplied). Screwdrivers and screwdriver handle pry bars, an extensive set of hooks and o-ring picks, crescent wrenches in 12, 18, and 24" sizes ( maybe even 2 of each), and hook and pin spanner wrenches because a lot of cylinder gland ends need those in order to be serviced.

Whatโs wrong with the Bosch Gts 254?
It costs at least 100โฌ less than any other cheapo โgoodโ brand saw, and that is including the table! Itโs even cheaper than Bosch green, but Bosch blue is supposed to be โprofessionalโ.
I canโt find much about it online, apart YouTube vids from third world countries. Is that a grey import and Bosch just lowered their margin on a good-enough saw for thirdies or is it cheap crap that somehow is painted blue?

I got a fucking job offer as a heavy duty mechanic for Waste Management a couple weeks ago and my mechanic experience is mostly shitposting on /o/ and claiming I know how to use a Power Probe.
And Iโm waiting for an offer letter as a water treatment plant mechanic within the next day or two because I somehow bullshit my way through those interviews and head mechanic likes me. I guess it pays to know how to check fuses with a multimeter and use a torque wrench.
>>2930193You might not even need much metric stuff, especially larger wrenches.
I was doing the little bench test at the water plant and when you get off of automotive and consumer stuff and more into utilities and industrial, itโs a whole lot of larger SAE. So if you have some big 30mm+ metric stuff on the rare occasion, hit that bitch with a crescent wrench and the closest SAE socket you can get on there.
I almost forgot today too, I have a pump station technician interview. I did a phone interview and they called me for in-person. >>2930336It's funny you bring this up. My minivan's AC has a slow leak. Last owner provided a stack of receipts, and the car had a bunch of AC diag work done not long before I purchased it. Eventually it started blowing warm, so I brought it to a mechanic twice. Couldn't find any leaks, but replaced the shaft seal on the compressor. Now it's starting to blow warm again. If two real mechanics couldn't diagnose the leak, then I have no chance.
What I'm thinking about doing is purchasing picrel and replacing the refrigerant with propane. I'll top it off a couple of times a year. Should be cheaper than R-134a, and blow way colder. Apparently the fire risk is overstated since it's such a small amount of propane, and it's a gas that burns off pretty safely.
>>2930199Ah yeah hooks and picks make sense. It sounds like they probably have the really big stuff since the listing says "basic set of hand tools."
>>2930257>>2930258Yeah I'd wondered about metric. Most of the machines I'm familiar with are imperial but I'd think stuff off of Toyota forklifts or whatever would be metric. I will just call and talk to them, but I'm trying to get some kind of idea of what I'm gonna have to spend on tools before I try to apply to the job.
I gotta think about brand too, my gut says I should probably just get Icon and upgrade later when I need to (helps that HF is very close to both my house and the job) but I'm also wondering if maybe I should go see if the Cat dealer will sell me tools since that'd get me Snap-On stuff at not much more than Icon price and it'd be appropriate for the stuff involved.

The cheap single hoses that go on the low pressure side with one gauge are ok as long as youโre not trying to diagnose anything beyond a leak.
Also if itโs totally empty, you can always go by weight,

>>2930418>is this just some jewish shit to make consumers buy more, or is there some legit reason why two tubs from the same company that seem near identical in size and shape would have different fitting lids?Little of column A, little of column B. It's Jewish, but not for the reason you listed. Basically Rubbermaid uses Chinese factories to manufacture their shit, and just have it branded with their company logo. Hello folx. I want to install a dishwasher in an apartment that has no dishwasher and no garbage disposal. Would it be possible to install a cheap built in washer without installing a garbage disposal. >>2930720Just use plasticware and paper plates
>>2930720>no garbage disposalwhy is this relevant?
I somehow don't think you're skilled enough to fool your landlord or do a proper job if you're asking, and think you need a disposal.
Buy a portable countertop dishwasher.
>>2930720Dish washers have "garbage disposals" built in
You can totally hook up a dishwasher if you have a kitchen sink, all you need is a threaded tee fitting to go between your hot water supply and faucet, and then you can just stick the drain hose into the sink. Wire a 3 prong cord to the dishwasher so you can plug it into an outlet. The hard part is that dishwashers are typically designed to physically mount to the underside of a counter top, this prevents it from tipping over when you try to open the door. You can try to attach something to the back to weigh it down though. It's going to look janky, unless you build a cabinet for it specifically. You're not going to be able to add it to your existing cabinets without some non-temporary demo work.
Or you can just buy a camper/RV style dish washer that just sits on your counter top. I've used one of these and they work well for a single person, but can be tricky to hook up to a water supply because of the (usually) non-standard inlet.
>>2930747Here's an example of a portable dishwasher. Honestly they are pretty close in price to a full sized dish washer, and might be a better option for your situation
>>2930463They are called narrow crown staples, usually installed using a pneumatic stapler. If you already have an air compressor, the tool can be bought for pretty cheap ($30-$40). I actually had to rebuild a privacy lattice that used thin wood strips like that last month, and it took maybe like 20 minutes to do the entire 4x8 section. Just make sure you get the right depth of staples so they don't punch through the other side. If your wood is truly 1/4" thick, then try to find 3/8" staples.

What happens when you try to tow stupidly heavy stuff with most zero turns, is the bearing set on the output shaft begins to get loose, and you'll have leaks around the output shaft seals.

>>2929343>I2RThis is literal troll physics. If you replace a single phase 60A 6mm2 wire with 3 2mm2 wires, and limit the current to 20A each, that means each will have 3 times the relative resistance, but the current squared goes down by 9 times, which works out to 1/3th the power dissipated per wire. Since you have 3 of them, you end up back where you started. There's current, and there's wire cross section it doesn't matter if you split up the same wire into 3 parts, have 1 thick wire, or have 3 wires with each a different phase.

I was ripped off by a car dealership so to get even I am going to damage cars until I feel I've caused an equivalent value to what I was ripped off plus cost of performing my plan. Here is my plan:
>First wait a few months so they've forgotten about me
>Build a large, portable slingshot sturdy enough to launch a handful of 1" ball bearings about 50 yards
>Print fake temporary license plate, get a rental car, get a remote controlled magnet to hold fake license plate in place.
The car dealership is conveniently located directly next to a freeway on ramp. The idea is to get a rental car, hide the real license plate with a fake one held on by a magnet that I can remotely switch on/off in case I need to ditch it fast (freeway cameras will capture my plate number otherwise). I will make the large slingshot operable by me while driving, load it up with the ball bearings, and as I'm driving up the freeway on ramp at night I will launch the bearings out. They will spread out and have enough mass/height to break windows, make dents. It won't be anything huge but damage like this on brand new cars will add up. Of course they will have insurance and ability to fix things cheaply so I will assume ~$1,000 of damage each time if I launch 10 ball bearings. I will need to repeat this 6 times to reach equivalent exchange.
The slingshot I'm planning to build will be something like picrel but smaller. Portable so I can move it in/out of the rental car backseat. Built in a way that I can load it up before driving and then lower the window and launch it by reaching back while driving. I will use gloves while handling the ball bearings, otherwise they'll be completely full of finger prints.
I have the tools, time, and mental issues to build something like this pretty easily. Do you think this plan is realistic and repeatable 6 times without getting caught? Any suggestions for improvement or anything I didn't consider?
>>2931195You should slingshot yourself onto the car dealership and claim damages like Sol Rosenberg.

My Dishwasher (GE pdw7880n00ss) is old and suddenly stopped cleaning dishes: I ran the same load 3 times and a lot of stuff still has residue and dried food all over it when it previously worked fine, aside from issues with sometimes draining all the way and the racks.
I don't have money to replace it even if it probably needs to be, is there anything I can try to do to fix it even if it might break down again in a few months just to give me time to save up money?
>>2931182Open it and inspect the brushes. They likely wore out and are easy to replace if the commutator isn't damaged. You can polish a lightly worn commutator with emery cloth. It's worth learning how to revive tools. That's gotten me several freebies others discarded.

do not take your cell phone with you
especially if you're gonna repeat the deed
cops can easily geo-fence an area and get a list of all phones present at a given time
so many clueless criminals have been caught this way
however, that may not be enough as many newer cars are being tracked 24/7 by gadgets installed by car dealers or manufacturers, often without notice or consent
>>2931252Yes I am aware of the cell phones. I have been leaving my phone at home as I've been staking out the dealership the past few days at multiple hours.
I also have just realized rental cars are always equipped with trackers. There is a rental car company called TURO that lets people post their own personal cars up for rent so I am thinking to use that, those personal cars won't have the company trackers and using a completely different car each time should be enough to throw off any track.
>>2931218>>2931200I like this idea but after some thinking I'm not sure how I could propel enough fluid 50m with both enough concentration and enough spread to do any real damage. I'm afraid the fluid would aerosolize and not do anything but make a light mist. I've seen videos of climate protestors using fire extinguishers to spray paint buildings, maybe that could work. But still 50m is a long distance.

>or does there need some sort of buffer system between the solar panel and the battery system?Again, if you are just going into the DC solar input jack, then that's fine. plumbing question. my sink was draining slowly about a week ago and it seemed like a pressure issue, so i backed the AAV off a couple threads for some airflow and it drained much more quickly after that. so, thinking that its the AAV failing, i left the valve backed off a couple threads until i had time to replace it and its been working fine.
a couple days later the dishwasher started backing up into the sink, so i took the AAV off entirely and grey water gushed out into the cabinet under the sink. does this sound like a clog down line? including a shitty mspaint drawing for posterity and views.

What do you call a small metal piece that basically consists of two rounded nail heads? And can I still get decent quality ones today?
It's used to connect leather straps to older cameras, binoculars or the likes.
>>2932096>can I still get decent quality ones today?never seen them at retail but chicago bolts, aka sex bolts, are easy to find
>>2932097Thank you! I knew about those, but I thought they only came with narrower heads, so maybe they would work.
However, I still want to stay as original as possible. The part is not screwed together, but one piece. Also the connector of the two heads is fairly thin. It gets attached through a long key hole (the thinner part of said hole being just a cut with basically 0 width). it sits in a small hole at the end of the key hole, so the leather can lay flat.
>>2928217 (OP)What is the minimum time it needs a tile just layed in order to step on it.
I'm tiling a wc and this is the only fucking toilet in the whole house. So the tile needs to hold on weight asap.
But how soon is asap?
>>2932146>minimum time several hours, let's say 6-12, but it depends on many factors
if you must go early, put a piece of wood covering many tiles to distribute your weight
the usual trick is to leave 1 or 2 tiles off, leaving room to step around, then next day, add those 2 missing tiles
>>2932156>wood covering tilesThanks, right now I get it, but its a bit troublesome because even in the case it can be stepped on, I doublt it can hold the weight of the toiler plus the munchin sitting on it.

>>2931936Those are old glass plug fuses. They're fine, but they have to be replaced after the event of a fault. That's their only purpose. This panel or sub panel would normally be swapped out for standard circuit breaker that uses switching fuses. Breakers just reset when you screw up and draw an ass ton of current.
https://youtu.be/gDBUqeqx5t4
You have what looks to be normal romex wires. knob & tube, I expect to see cloth fiber sheathing. You have ground wires and k&t does not. k&t just ran two wires separately from the panel to each outlet or appliance. Modern romex, say 14/3 or 14/2, is copper sheathed in rubber and bundled together in another rubber sheathing 14 gauge three conductor wires plus ground and 14 gauge two conductor wires plus ground respectively.
My nonpro guess is the wiring has been replaced, but they left the sub panel. I can't comment on how viable the wires chosen are for their assignments. Pros will consider the length of the run and the amperage dictated by the fuse and end appliance when determining their romex gauge, outlets, and all else.

Those brush holders. Never seen, perhaps someone can explain hwo to work on them. Theres a latch on top (grey thing) which is preloaded by a leaf spring. Theres notches on the holder that you can set the grey thing into. I guess the tension will change depending where you set that. It also turns out if you open them all the way to look at brushes there's a catch keeping the things open. How convenient! But when it's time to reset it I cant find a way to release the catch, only improperly wedging something in between the catch.

Any HVAC savvy people around? Looking to fit an SLA printer into my tiny apartment, trying to figure out ventilation. I'm renting it, so I don't know too much about what exactly is in this dropped drywall, but I know there's at least a single fan sucking in my bathroom air (on the right) and blowing it through some sort of PVC piping outside (on the left).
I want to to hook up the printer ventilation by cutting out a piece of piping, replacing it with a wye, and hooking the printer enclosure exhaust to that - would love to get some input into whether this is even sensible before I start hacking into the drywall.
Picrel, roughly the two locations I could hook up.
I want to attach some decorative plastic fencing to reinforce a section of my screened in porch. What's a good way to affix it to the thin walled aluminum framing that hopefully won't tear out when some overly excited dogs tackle it because someone is walking by?
I know screws won't work too well because there's some hooks for the Florida mandated child fencing around the pool that have already torn out from barely any use and I'm not looking to hurricane proof it, but being able to remove it so it for hurricane season.
I'm thinking RivNuts but I'm open to suggestions or being called a moron for thinking that way.
I'm making the assumption that if I'm ok at woodworking I can make a mold for a sink basin to pour with concrete to go along a custom bathroom vanity. I've seen tutorials for bare concrete, terrazzo, smoother concrete, etc. but I would like to know if there is a way to make concrete look like travertine. I assume it'll be mixing white cement and sand, separate in batches and color each in different shades and pour them in sequence and carefully not to disturb the layers, maybe pouring on top of a spatula on top of the mold instead of directly over. Are there any options I should look into? or can I start with just this general information? I haven't designed the piece yet, but it would be 80cm wide, around 40cm deep, and between 10-30cm thick depending on the design of the basin.
Maybe I could add salt on the exterior to create the porous look of real travetine, but the part that touches water should be smooth, maybe I could fill the gaps with golden resin to go full luxury, but that would be another area I would have no experience in. I've seen videos of professionally made ones and I can see some reinforcement in the cement, I think it's glass fiber.
