/abo/ thread
Abomination Thread
Fresh from a deranged namefag edition

This is a warning to everyone, if you do a custom construction, have an inspector come out every week to check up on the beaners.

All right here's what I found:

>No way those boards will be able to support EF's burgeoning wife the next time she's pregnant with someone else's kid
>The two posts in the front look like they're set right into the dirt
>Those nails man, the fuck were they even aiming for

Is that it? Or is there something else even worse that I'm missing?

I'm not expert, but this is what I see so far.
Undersized lag bolts in the corner supports that are placed too close to the edge of the beam.
4x4 looking posts when they should be 6x6.
Roof simply sitting on the posts, no strong ties, or notching. Can't tell how those are attached. At least the bottom is notched.
What are all those vertical nails on the outside on the bottom frame? are those two boards nailed together? the right side looks like it's a single board.
maybe it's the wind angle lens, there looks to be some sagging going on the deck
roof soffit has some weird curve going on, again, could be the lens.

I'm skilled interior, but I'd like to be more of a builder. I don't have an inspector's eye.

Deck joists are spaced like ass and they didn't finish flash taping the zipboard. I'm not thrilled about how the beams just rest on posts.

Going in.
>3:14 vinyl siding, soffit, and trim
It's the cheapest stuff. Animals are going to get in eventually even if it's caulked. The video house is poorly done. Bugs set up shop behind it all year round. It fails after a few decades so you can replace it with something better if your house hasn't rotted.
>lots of roofer and siding critiques
fair and expected
>handrail blocking nonexistent deck
>soil washing out under driveway
>can't turn off stove gas
lol

>improper application of drywall mud
Not enough coats or sanding. Some taping issues, but there are always framing or drywall hanging mistakes that are poorly corrected with mud. If they need higher quality finishers, they'll have to pay higher prices. This is some D R Horton type home so that won't happen.

He should take a deeper dive on the mechanical. That's already two superficial errors on the gas and a furnace switch next to a light switch. There has to be more plumbing, hvac, electrical shoddiness. It won't be long before the doors rub or latch poorly. I don't trust any of the showers or wet areas until they're proven sealed.

Looks like it was just sold half finished, probably meant to have a steel wrap around staircase because if code said the railings had to be steel, then the balcony wall has to be steel, and which point you might as well install it like a fire escape.
Often the issue is that code says duplexes need multiple exits which can't be right next to each other.

I could save her.
Stucco render (falls off but 5 minute fix every year), have to spend money on the steel, bit of landscaping, extend the balcony with a metre of pagola if anything would grow on it,

It's a deliberate thing done in a lot of islamic architecture. I forget the name of it, but it's meant to be obvious in an "only god is perfect" way, like the last tile or ornament in a room is goofed so the builder doesn't commit the sine of pride/vanity. Google sucks now because it'll think you're searching for anti-muslim shit, but there's an actual name and theory for it similar to this;

I should've taken pictures, but I once lived in a place where the staircase headed upstairs was converted into a bathroom, to make the basement into a separate apartment. When you walked into the bathroom, the stairs turned 90 degrees right for a ways, then the toilet was on a platform. Turn 90 degrees left and go up some more, and the shower was in the dead end at the top.

The best part was that they decided to cover everything with tile, floors and walls. One time I got out of the shower and slipped, rolled down the tiled staircase ass naked and got fucked up lol

I gotta agree. It is always obvious as fuck and it is always a hack job. They were already going the 'cheap as fuck' route by converting the garage in the first place instead of adding on to the building. So you know every god damn thing in there is the cheapest, shittiest whatever. Cheap windows, cheap doors, cheap flooring, cheap ceilings. Did they insulate it? Probably not. Is it properly connected to the HVAC? Doubt it. Does it have a suitable number of power outlets? Unlikely. What is the lighting situation? In a word, "dire".

Open up zillow in your area and look for houses that have garage conversions. They are easy to spot.

I know a few people along the socal coast who build it like that in the first place, mainly because adus are easy to get permits for, limited in size, and can be attached to a garage for the main house. they add an extra bathroom and bedrooms to the adu (basically no living room), insulate and properly wire the garage, get insulated garage doors, and use it as a living room. it's actually kinda nice being able to open a garage door to the living room if you have a party. still its hot or miss and i'd be careful when buying one.

The bathtub is nice, but I'm unclear on how to get from the bathtub to the bed without dying.

Dug up an old backup drive and found something surreal while exploring photos from 2009.

Other than the fact that the exhaust is fucked up, the rear bumper is shot, it looks like shit, the roof probably leaks, it won't have any heat or AC, it will have shit gas milage, and any retired school bus will have a million miles on it? Nothing. Well, maybe not nothing, as we only have pictures of its left size. At least the turn signals work.

It's beat up for sure, but I think for it to be a true abomination it has to leave you in disbelief. It has to have an element of the absurd. You have to look at it and think "who in their right mind thought this was acceptable at all? who would have done this? what went so wrong for this to happen?" or you have to see their internal process working in a retarded but funny way to reach the approach they reached. I think in this case they either had the opportunity to get one of these for cheap and thought fuck it, or they just have poor taste.
