its the opposite in my opinion. this shit just slides slow effort threads off into the archive which deincentives participation if you think your shit will disappear in exchange for turds like this thread. even the stupid questions thread gets rage poasts instead of any answers. so many unreplied to posts.

As someone who actually does timber framing for a living, the amount of money, time and effort is really not worth it unless you absolutely need the look.
Cutting dovetails by hand is tedious as hell and an Arunda dovetail jig is $3000
If you do regular square joints you still need a couple $200 chisels and tons of time

Pre-fab trusses have a lot of advantages compared to the timber-frame bents + purlins setup as well
>any engineer can quickly approve a design
>can do giant clear spans without any middle support
>can fly them yourself with a rope + ladder, or spend an hour or less of crane time to get them all up there
>timber-frame bents need at least 2 well trained dudes, a hefty crane and way more crane time

>Lego
>pile of twigs hooked together with screws

Lego pieces are literally called BRICKS and are arranged and assembled using common brick/masonry block principles with the exception of not using mortar.
In spite of that lack of mortar they still don't need screws or anything analogous to separate fasteners to stay assembled.

If that comparison wasn't retarded enough, there *are* construction toys that emulate typical wood framed construction principles, like Lincoln Logs and Tinkertoys...and in the case of the latter its relatively small and spindly elements have already caused it to become THE go-to reference for cheap, toy-like, barely adequate wooden structural framing.

Dumb MFer isn't even up to speed on the construction principles and knowledge documented in "The Three Little Pigs".

I suspect this method of joining timber has a known and proven strength and good repeatability, even when done by untrained fuckwits. Meanwhile most joining methods take the cross section of the lumber way down, effectively reducing it's strength alot. To further complicate matters it will have a profound impact where in your structure which style of joint is use and wether the side is under tension or compression.
Funny metal sheets and screws don't care.
So I'd guess if youre building somewhere where construction is regulated this will at least avoid a whole lot of regulation associated work.

I'll repeat it again so you retards can understand: the only reasons to use wood are because its cheap and abundant. If I am paying millions of dollars for a house (which homes are frequently becoming in the US), why would I want it to be made of a fundamentally cheap material?

The euroids get a lot wrong, but they understand that homes shouldn't be made of wood

Europoor here, achually, you can make homes out of wood. And many of us do.
However, we tend to do it properly and not with some stupid ass sticks. 2 by 4? Thatโ€™s like 5 x 10 cm? Lmao. The bed I built for my kids is made from more massive wood than this.

there are building codes that allow for proper timber framing, but you aren't allowed that with home hardware store bought 2x4 and regular dimensional pine, you need mass timber for that, and even then a lot of building codes require reinforcement with metal plates and screws.

I won't argue with that, it's true. building codes should not be enforced the way they are, they should set minimum standards, not be so rigid on specific things being the ONLY way to do things. This is why a lot of builders for more elite clients build to code first, pass inspection, then go back and build it the way the client wanted in the first place.
