Is enjoying /diy/ stuff and getting excited over tools a sign of a maturing mind?

when you were partying I studied the shop
when you were having premarital sex I mastered the bridgeport
while you wasted your days at the gym in pursuit of vanity I cultivated fine finishes
and now that the world is on fire and barbarians are at the gate you have the audacity to come to me for help?

My "oh shit, I'm an adult now" moment was when I got excited at the idea of having my own washer and dryer instead of having to use a shared apartment complex one.

I'm not sure about /diy/ stuff and tools, I've been into both since I was a little kid myself.

i look at some engineering shit like rockets and jet propulsion and after a brief period of excitement fall into depression and self loathing because i'll never be a part of it
must be a sign of narcissistic mind

Plenty of people are doing RC rockets and jets on YouTube. You had to admit you have no idea what to do it yourself and go back to the basics.
Engineering is not about having money, but an organized plan for the material and principles at play. Even non-functioning off-scale models and drawings of fantastic nature and shitty proportion creates understanding, raises more questions for the next iteration and is the beginning part of any plan. In fact if those are not done, it would not be engineering but money fraud because risk is not assessed and potential is over blown. It will be a pure waste of material, labor and capital.
Project your mental image into the physical world if you love it so much. Melt wax, shave wood, fold paper, drill pipe, bind sand, hotglue boxes, do whatever it takes to express the idea. Doing things yourself cuts down on complexity as stuff you see on media but not made available to you is simply ignored and starts looking on what you can have.
Start organizing your thoughts. No one else can. Try writing on different kind of paper and bind them. Paper clip with cardstock and 3 hole punched paper with binder are my favorites.

I guess. I like fixing things more and more. Probably because ive been working in a trade for 7 years and keep getting better at it so i can figure out how to fix most household things without looking it up.

That feeling is unsubstantiated and there is no greater socialization than talk and work deeply about the subject which reflects one's thought process and mental faculty in general. To a normie, talk about detail fries their brain as they have no follow up or the natural curiosity to dig deeper past initial handshaking and the superficial, this leaves them hanging in a tough spot where they don't care and they push that feeling onto you based on their weak ego despite their failure in socializing given a subject, to even give analysis from a novice or bystander perspective where no judgement of consequences is made.
If they engage full focus then they are on the spectrum and you are in good company. It doesn't matter if they go quiet because they are studying the situation or open up because they have questions or what he wants to show or plan or just straight up arguing the wrongs and go full critical.

narcissism is a disorder where you believe everything is about you unless it's something bad or wrong then it is never about you. you may know a famous person or 2 like this.

maturity is admitting when you fuck up and then doing something about it.
