The human eye in most sensitive to green wavelengths of light, so in most conditions the green/yellow is going to be better. It's also more contrasty against most of the built environment – mostly warm greys to browns.

If you're going to be against a mostly forested or otherwise chlorophyll'd green backdrop though, orange is better because of the contrast.

I also do that but I'd rather wear a work shirt that doesn't matter than wear out my nicer shirts that I can wear when I go places.

For workplace, a mix of both. To prevent losing tools or as hunting hi-vis an-anti camo in a forest full of maple trees in the fall? Ford Blue.

I don't even wear boots let alone putting on a "please bother me ice" vest.

Bro your lucky I put shoes on before I bother coming in.

Depends on your skin tone, Green for cool skin tones, Orange for warm skin tones

Whenever I wear the yellow, I look like a homeless person who hasn’t showered in 3 weeks by 10am. If I wear the orange, I can make it to lunch most days without looking like a wreck.

Yellow for general visibility, orange if you want to be invisible to deer.

Not always the case but orange often indicates foreman or management while yellow is the workers
