DIY endoscope
Any ideas on how one could make an endoscope out of off-the-shelf stuff that would fit down a 3.5-4mm diameter hole? I want to inspect the pistons in my diesel engine through the glow plug holes, but normal automotive bore scopes are too big to fit and medical endoscopes go for at least a grand. I know the picture quality wouldn't be great, but couldn't I get some fibre optic cable and glue a microscope or doorbell camera to the end of one, a light source to the end of the other, and jam them down the hole?

Only 5 ways to do this and you probably know it already:
a) optical lense assemblies that repeat along the tube
b) one fiber per pixel
c) camera and optic small enough to sit at the front end
d) just pull the head you spastic
e) how about not being a gay degenerate motorist in the first place, get a bicycle or walk you spastic

I'm not doing a fucking head job on a VW CAYC engine just to find out if the pistons are in good order or not, in terms of time and money that would be worth considerably more than buying a decent endoscope, which is what I'm trying to avoid doing in the fucking first place. Idiot.
>get a bicycle or walk you spastic
Sure, let me turn my 20 minute commute to work into a 2 hour marathon. Idiot. Do you even know what a job is?

>one fiber per pixel
Elaborate. Surely a 2-3mm diameter fiber could fit more than a single fucking pixel's worth of optical information?
>camera small enough to fit
Give me an aliexpress link and I'll buy one.

Any one of these ear cleaner cameras will fit in your urethra, obviously will not go all the way though if you're trying to /diy/ a cystoscope. Tip should be right about 4mm, 40mm-ish length. If you need thinner or longer then it's gonna have to be the optic cable.

you are 1 not going to do this, and 2 they are so cheap now they are in themselves off the shelf. you can get one for your phone that is several feet long and connects to your phone with wifi.

>fibre optic cable
no one uses this on endoscopes, they have tiny cameras at the end of the probe.

Well shit, nothing like that came up when I searched for it. Thanks anon, hopefully the picture quality is actually useful from such a cheap unit.

>surely a 2-3mm fiber... more than a single pixel
it is only one fiber. As such it will only transmit one dot, or pixel if, you will, and it will be white in your case, or whatever the average color is
get N strands of vers small diameter and form a bundle. Prep the ends. You can now display N pixels. Are you an imbecile?
Oh motorist who lacks the resiliance to run for two hours, I forgot about that.
>camera small enought to fit
>give me aliexpress link
I dont deal with alibaba. But there is plenty of manufacturers offering CCDs with sub 3 or 4 mm edge length.I'm not doing your web searches for you
Spastic. It's still much easier and cheaper to just pull the head and replace the gasket like everyone else instead of trying to develop an entire fucking endoscope for a single use. You'd be done by now. But why expect the motoeist to have a brain.

they literally do
I have made a list of the 3 ways it is commonly done here

all three ways do to that have different use cases and all 3 are being done in med.
Typical, whole thread full of imbeciles.

The smallest readymade endoscope I've got is 4.5mm (for 50$) ...There's also OVM6948, but you cannot afford it.
You might wanna look at a fiber optic bundle camera.

Wait what? you want to inspect pistons? Just remove the engine head. Be braver and work harder.

I've got a 3.9mm diameter endoscope on the way, which is small enough to fit through the glow plug holes with a bit of leeway. Spending $60 for that scope, I can inspect the pistons in less than an hour. Why would I waste so much more time (and then way more money for replacement gaskets, head bolts, etc.) to achieve the same goal?

If it was a simple OHV engine, sure, taking the head off is a walk in the park, but doing the same for a VW 1.6L TDI is a pain in the ass.

Do a compression test...
Anonymous No.2938738
>>2938734
I'll do that as well, but a comp test alone won't show any pitting in the piston.
