How do I not die from sewer gas? I want to go into an old timey sewer like picrel and it has ventilation shafts all the way and the tunnel is large enough to drive a car into and is level in its entirety (entrance is from the side if a ravine so one does not descend at any point)

practice holding your breath until you are no longer addicted to air

This. I hear the first 2 weeks of detoxing from air is the worst. Go without air for 2 weeks and you wonโ€™t feel like you need it anymore. Worked for me with Newports.

Buy a working SCBA, learn how to use it properly and bring more than one high quality waterproof flashlight or seal cheap ones well.

Sewer gas even from a babby open septic tank is respectably dangerous. Sewers just look like sewers so there's no benefit poking about in them.

Get a continuous 4 gas detector that will tell you if you're going to die. This is not optional

If it's just stinky wear a respirator.

Blower blowing air in is good but it won't take you very far

Blowing air in is just a gamble if you donโ€™t know where it goes and have no idea what gases there are. Either test it or bring an scba

>>2939514
4 gas detectors donโ€™t normally detect ammonia do they

Why go into a place where you might die? Is there treasure or just shit and piss in a puddle?
Anonymous No.2939604
>>2939515
No, but you'd have 20% O2 and acceotable CO so you wont suffocate, and you won't explode so your respirator should be able to get rid of the ammonia.

Buy a good gas analyzer. Don't skimp or buy an amazon / ebay one. That said, you need to understand the nature of the gases you may come across in confined spaces and the risks. You really need closed air-supply for these sorts of ventures. No clothing that might generate a spark, if you're using radios they're another point of risk. Gas leaks can kill you in more ways than one.
