unloading pallets
I need to unload 24 pallets with bricks on my property, but I cant drive a big truck on it because there are power lines next to the street on my side. A truck with a crane wont fit under them. I also cant get them delivered and unloaded onto the street.

I was thinking to build something like pic rel, but it has to be free standing.

Constrains:
1: It needs to be movable so I can unload several pallets without having to move them.
2: It has to be done on uneven terrain (grass)

I thought about a double A frame with car wheels that are adjustable in height so I can compensate the terrain.
The connectors would be made ouf steel where I can just slide some lumber inside and bolt it down.
Has anyone ever done something like that?

>Option B, get a forklift, but they are expensive and/or might break down
>Option C unload the pallet by hand but that would take a lot of time and effort

I need to unload them as fast as possible because I need to rent a small truck to get them from the store. One pallet is about 1 metric ton.

Look for one of those I guess, maybe you can rent it. But you'd be better off paying extra for some guy with a telehandler because it is going to suck.
The homemade mobile crane on uneven grass sounds like a good way to end up crushed under a pallet.

I built a gantry out of 4x4s and two 2x12s, along with some 2x4s and plywood for gussets to prevent racking. I had an 900 pound drill press up in the air without a problem.

Eventually, I got myself a used lift truck like picture related. They can be rented also.

I built a stout portable gantry (all steel, surplus steel is often easy to find) but they don't suit moving pallets which have nothing to grab being designed for forks. I barely use it and will likely make something else of the material.

A delivery truck with a truck-mounted forklift is designed to unload pallets then place them as you describe. If you contact the brick company they might deliver direct with their forklift since this cannot be a new problem.

If they have hydraulic drop-deck trailers for rent you could back the loads where they need to be then anchor a manual puller (the EU favorite is Tirfor, they're VERY nice) to a tree etc, run cable or log chain round the base of the pallet, lower the deck close to the ground then drive out from under the load. I've done that with cars, trucks and steel. Quick and easy if you read a bit about winching and rigging first.

you're delusional, OP.

You are wanting to transport and unload 24 pallets by yourself with a rented truck... are you thinking 12 or 24 trips?
a rented telehandler or all terrain forklift is what you need for unloading, you could possibly build a gantry crane but the crane will have to move to 24 different locations.

do you even have level ground to store 24 pallets of stuff accessible by truck?
what the hell are you trying to do?

ass u me youre eurotrash. isnt there always several local guys with backhoes that are always driving around doing small contract projects here and there? ask around until you find one that has a set of pallet forls that hang on the bucket and hire him to unload your shit

lifting a pallet of brick on not level ground with anything is a recipe for disaster, fyi.

also driving out from under a pallet of bricks will most likely result in many bricks being damaged when the whole thing explodes when it hits the ground, that anon's suggestion is not what you want

Zero space, zero equipment, zero skills, rented truck, this sounds like it will go well... You got your brick moving loicense at least?

you can still see the license plate of the van, and the trailer is also easy to see

I can take 3 pallets each trip, its 10min one way. Not totally crazy. I also dont need all bricks at once so I might split that in half.
I have the space but I would want to drop the pallets onto the concrete slab where I need them.
I reconsidered and I will hire someone to pour the concrete so I wont need to unload anything on grass.

Its just about 8000 bricks totally doable.
But I want to cut down the time I would need to rent the small truck to save some money.
SureI could buy a truck for that project but for the insurance I can rent one for two weeks.

Sorry I dont own a full set of construction equipment for a one time project.

The money you save on less truck time is just gonna be spent on whatever halfassed slapdash device you come up with.
Just do it by hand. Recruit some friends.
