These are great for drafting, but the lead in these is far too thin for use in carpentry. You need something that can make heavy marks and doesn't break easily.

Yeah, the rotring generally stays at home/in the office. The mechanical pencil I take out and about for notes and stuff is a Staedtler Mars Micro 0.9mm specifically because it's not as fragile and also not $30-50, I do still use actual carpenters pencils and marking knives for stuff like woodworking.

Also I'm gonna shout out the Uniball Air, it always lays down lots of ink on basically any surface, the porous tip shits all over even the best ball points.
