Not so shitty camping chair repair
So my favorite camping chair ripped. I want to hear /diy/'s bright ideas on how to fix it. I've been sitting in it with the rip (keep forgetting) for two events so it's not exactly falling apart but obviously just sewing the seam isn't going to cut it. I cannot remove the fabric nor use a sewing machine on it like this.

The reason I want to fix it, besides being disgusted at our disposable society, is it has what are now unique double cup holders. They still make this model frame but have ditched the double large separator cup holders for shitty walmart chair mesh ones.

It's plastic. Use a patch of nylon and melt it back together with a clothes iron covered in foil. Then stitch the patch together with the original material.

I would do a full width pach all the way around the ripped part of the seat section, wrapped around underneath as well and sewn to itself underneath. It would look more coherent than patching one small area, and avoid creating stress riser perforations in the highly stressed middle of the seat area. A lot of hand sewing with strong thread and a strong needle. Tie it into the doublestiched seam towards the front. Not complicated but could take an hour or two. Put on some nice music.

cut a piece of cloth longer and wider than the tear and then sew around the rip of the cloth to chair and then sew around the rim of the tear to the cloth

>and then sew around the RIM* of the cloth to chair

Time to learn to sew, bitch.

I like the idea of fishing line, I've never tried that.

My go-to has always been dental floss.
Go to the drugstore, find the little 8 dollar sewing kit, throw everything away except for the needles, tape measure and little scissors (or dont but who cares wtf the rest of the shit is for)

sew that shit. you are prolly gonna poke your fingers. dont be sad if it isnt perfect.
the floss will be stronger than whatever thread they used.

i lowkey wanna learn how to use a machine, but im a man, so idk

Ok, here it comes because you KNEW it would come eventually...

Buy a new fucking chair you cheap-ass!

But if you want to be a hard head then you need to drill out all the rivets holding that fabric on the chair so you can take it to a seamstress and have them do the patching for you. Thing is you're gonna need more material for them to use so you'll need ANOTHER CHAIR to disassemble too and use that fabric on your fancy ass chair. Thing is you can save time by just cutting out the fabric rather than drilling out the rivets on the doner chair. Oh and good luck getting screws long enough (and thin enough) to fit through the rivet holes. You will of course need rounded nuts too so you don't catch your legs or skin parts on bolts that poke through.

If I were you I'd buy a better fucking chair off Amazon or elsewhere and move on in life.

that shit disintegrates after several years. when it rips you just get a new one. it's going to keep ripping.
