What's a good place to get ideas/inspiration for getting the most out of a small living space?
I live in a single bedroom bachelor's apartment in an old commie block, and I think I've done just about all that I could with it, but perhaps I could get more out of it.
If I wasn't renting I'd tear down the stupid partition wall someone added in the 90s, because of it I can't even put a full-size sofa, but I have to make due.

Bumping this will be in a similar situation

Normally I'd recommend using AI, but if you already have everything covered, and can't do anything about partition walls, then the only thing left is vertical space, you can get an elevated bed for example and use the space under it for the PC.

Thanks for the bump, is it a similar layout, do you have a model of it?

>>2948893
Do you have any particular AI you have in mind?
I thought a lot about a raised bed, but I forget about the idea any time I'm sick.
Just can't imagine going up and down a ladder while having a fever of feeling like puking.

Since the thread is still alive I'll bump it.
This was my old TV set up, it's DYI from scrap from an old office where I worked, and made it to fit the TV and speakers on top and on the bottom shelf to fit the receiver, a PS3 and the laptop I had at the time.
Anonymous No.2950405 [Report]
This is what it looks now and I'm wondering what to use the space under the TV for without looking too cluttered and without putting too much weight on the TV stand as it'll bend.

can you ask your landlord if its ok to remove the wall? mayne they wont care, epecially if the other units dont have it

He'll agree for sure, he doesn't really care what I do as long as I keep the apartment maintained.
It was a dump when I moved in years ago.

The problem is that it's not a weekend project, it's going to be quite involved from the preparation for the demolition (it's a single room apartment so all furniture will have to be stacked and protected, the tear down, the cleanup, the repairs afterwards.
I'll need to redo the floor, the wiring for the lights on the ceiling and potentially a part of the wall between the balcony window and the small window on the other side of the dividing wall.

all the tidiest small spaces I've seen have taken notes from marine carpentry

Looks like flatpack dogshit. Veneered sawdust and glue right? Give me real wood for my cabinetry. If you really have to slum it plywood at least. Looks like 'high end' vinyl flooring trying to look like tile. If Ikea made apartments for hipsters this is what I think they would look like.

just a quick google image search to demonstrate the functionality achieved in the space, friendo.

Where will you put the shed?

I'll have a look around, thanks.
I haven't looked at many tiny homes or RVs because it's a different problem they're trying to solve even if it seems similar.
At least I have a massive wardrobe for storage and a separate kitchen, so it's just the living space I want to optimise.

Most of the furniture is flatpack already, except for the sofa and table.
Ikea already make apartments for hipsters, just look at their catalogues.

Walk around Ikea, they have display spaces set up with a variety of sized spaces to give you ideas.

>tear out wall
>refinish nicely
>deny it was ever there if they try to come for your deposit at the other end

If you're comfy enough on it a futon bed / foldable guest matress as a bed saves tons of room. Just sleep between couch and tv or on the balcony if enclosed and put it all away in some overhead storage during day. Or use a couch that doubles as a bed.
I'd also switch rooms. The power station and drawer make more sense closer to the bathroom. With a foldable matress or a raised bed this should leave enough space in the main room for a comfy couch.

Asking won't hurt.

I've also been thinking about one of those IKEA drawer beds that extend.
The idea is that having an unobstructed view of the room will give more sense of space, maybe a large mirror on the wall between the bed and desk would also help.
The downside is that I'll have to get rid of the studio monitors and fiddle around with the bed every night.

Thanks I'll have a look.

Technically I can tear down the wall but it would be a tremendous amount of work and money.
There's electrical wiring that needs to be re-routed, the windows on the balcony would need to be reworked where they meet the wall, as well as the small window on one side of the wall.
It would also be a waste not to pour self-levelling plaster to fix the uneven floor afterwards, and the scope just keeps creeping.

Rockler sells Murphy bed hardware kits if you have the means to build the rest of it.

Murphy beds look pretty sweet as a way to save space during the day and I've thought about it a lot.
It's going to be at least 1500 EUR to get one, but it's probably going to make the most difference.

NTA but you can put shit on the entirety of the furniture because the TV isn't in the way
