I hate bosses and companies and think people should basically never be fired, but if you do this you should be never allowed on any jobsite ever again anywhere.

Not only does it obviously risk killing someone, it shows zero foresight or systems thinking – whatever productivity gain you were trying to make would be obliterated by the aftermath of dealing with a death on site.

He cut a lock.

Apparently it's some industrial safety shit where you put a lock on machinery while you're working on it so someone can't start it and potentially kill you.

loto means Lock Out Tag Out. That lock would be put on the main power supply of a machine while in the off position. A third party holds the key. This ensures someone doesn't power up and kill their co-worker. The cut lock would indicate OP wants to remove it at will. A secondary indication is that OP blows homeless men behind the dumpster while on break at his job.

Is it such a big deal?
>can't do it boss, it's tagged out
What's he gonna do? Cope and seethe?

>Jamal the DEI maintenance roody-poo locks out a machine
>gets halfway done fixing it in his 12 hour shift (with breaks every 2 hours to smoke up some weed)
>forgets his loto key in his trousers and drives home with it
>white maintenance arrives and repairs the problem in 15 minutes
>still loto'd tho
>boss cuts off the lock so work can resume
reddit: "wtf I only heard of loto this morning while scrolling reddit!?!?! you can't just cut the lock off?!?!! what!! I almost spit out my $9 chair spiced mocha-soi sustainable bug latte all over my $900 ergonomic keyboard in my air conditioned sloppa work pod!!!!!"

It is kinda a big deal to cut a lockout lock off if somebody sees it. That completely defeats the purpose of not crushing somebody in a machine.

We’re supposed to do some paperwork at minimum if we do it.

respecting the procedure even when stupid people mess it up is what keeps stupid people from killing you when you expect it to protect you later
white maintenance should not be willing to climb into a machine that would shred him like a chinese liveleak star for a boss that will cut off a loto without doing due diligence first, because eventually it will be his lock that gets cut

>A third party holds the key.
I don't know for sure how Americans do it, but I assume they do the same as here. For a simple job you hold the key yourself, for complex jobs a lockbox holds the key. With everyone and their dog putting their personal lock on the lockbox and their name on the lock list.

Some third party not doing the work holding the key would kind of defeat the point.

When I worked at a plant the foreman would leave the keys in the locks.

That’s not even a LOTO lock, it’s just a red annodized american lock
