My wired earphones have some issue and refuse to work
I try to connect to my green headphone/earphone jack port on my computer, and it appears connected, but nothing plays
Similarly, on my laptop, the earphones produce nothing, unless I rotate the thing connected near the port and sorta lift it
I'm not super technical but pleasee help, thank you!!
the area near my port is covered with tthis thing, and idk how to remove it or even diagnose the issue bc i dont volume towards my phone either

Probably the wires are broken inside the cable from long use and constant wiggling of the cable around the plug, which is normal. A typical malfunction. The copper wire or wires looses permanent conduction due to mechanical stress, but when you twitch it it may recconect for a while and conduct the signal current to the earphones for the moment. This is the most typical thig if the phones woudn't work with many appliances alike, otherwise it could be some socket thing or output stage in a particular device to blame and not the headphones themselves. This could only be fixed by cutting the cable off a few cms up from the plug and soldering in a new same type plug in place after checking the wiring to the phones with a multimeter. I assume it's a mini jack plug connector TRS or TRRS perhaps. See here for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phone_connector_(audio) So that's that I'd think. And would be most probably fixable the way I outlined, but it requires some skill.

Time for new headphones, the wire is fucked internally. How have you never experienced this problem before?

There are actually a lot of things that can cause this. My iPod has a poor connection because the battery swelled slightly and pushed the contacts apart. Could be dirty contacts or debris inside the port, could be a frayed wire. Try another set of headphones or earbuds in the same port.
