Home design and layout
I plan on building an offgrid cabin and want to layout my design in 2 ways:

1 for floorplan so I can work out how much space I really need to be comfy in each room.

2 for visualizing the exterior. It doesnt have to be perfect but sort of like sketchups you see people do for their /diy/ projects on youtube. I want to play around with sidings and colors to hopefully refine things to a good place before I start.

Whats some good software to accomplish both of those goals?

I use sweet home 3d (on Ubuntu). Intuitive to work with and a great texture library. It also has a mobile version for viewing on the go.

As it is with anything, any software is as good as the user is.
You can buy license for real archiCAD software, or you could use a browser based floor planer and build the exterior in blender with a pdf or some browser tab opened for references, for designs and standards.
I will use the latter. The architect jew will fear me.

QCAD is superb for drawing 2D plan and elevation views. (Pic related.)
OpenSCAD is okay for drawing 3D models.

Fun fact: A new copy of RSMeans 2025 is 500 dollars, but an old copy of RSMeans 2019 is only 25 dollars. You can use the 2019 book to at least get a general idea of the cost differences between house designs.
