How do we feel about cheap generators? I just got the prime discount on this one.
>3600 watts / 4400 peak

I feel like if I bought one, I'd have mild buyer's remorse cus I don't need it, and got conned from some type of cunning corporate sale. So then I'd make a thread here to see what others felt about my purchase, with hopes that I'd be validated it's a good purchase - one that made me more manly, and independent from the system.

You can get refurbished firmans that can do the same or more and sometimes are inverter drive (quieter and more fuel efficient) for a little bit more several times a year when they go on sale

It will last for 2-3 seasons if you're lucky. Use a load bank to test if it will really output 3600W continuous. If not, get a refund.

>generators?
I'd love one. But I have never needed one.

remanufactured generators
remanufactured sawzall
chainsaws

these are worth it over buying used, even if you are stingy as hell.
especially inverter generators.

probably puts out closer to 1000 watts

Not sure if you are implying this gen is used. It is new.
Anonymous No.2949800 [Report]
depends heavily on use case, how long you expect it to last for, and if you think it'll actually output whats advertised

im saying thats a good choice. no one sells a used genny in good, working quiet condition for a reasobable price

i, who am stingy as hell, buy something similar to what you did, factory reman for me, new for you. some things it doesnt make sense to chase for cheap, its worth it to have easy to start generators.
all factory reman means is it was returned once, but is better than "scratch and dent" basically.
new enough it counts, still in box

Most generators are for critical applications so need to be reliable, the issue with chineesium is that you can't get parts or repairs, so the very first thing they goes wrong with them tends to make them write offs. And there's no enforceable warranty either so if it arrives and just doesn't work in the first place there's not much you can do.

And they also tend to have little if any resale value, and that's relevant because a lot of these seasonal applications you might just buy a good generator second hand then resell it at the end of the season.

I'm buying it to charge my power stations and backup lithium batteries. I figured if I can run it an hour a day, I should be able to run my fridge all day. My battery capacity is limited so it would be about a half hour generator run every 12 hours. Plus still run low wattage things like a laptop and maybe my cable modem.
Anonymous No.2950036 [Report]
Not sure why but Amazon sent the newer model with higher wattage.
Anonymous No.2950038 [Report] >>2950124
Got the generator. Thought they sent the wrong model, but this is right.

Pure sine output?

Yeah it is an inverter, I've seen measurements on youtube.

I have some cheap 4000W that I've used for 8 years worth of hurricane seasons. All you need to do to make them last for decades is to run the machine until the gas runs out, and if you keep gas in the tank, turn the gas valve off and let the carburetor run dry. Then put gas stabilizer in the gas tank.

Also run the machine once a year.

Do that and it will last you 20 years

Anyone know how to pick the proper NGK spark plug for a cheap generator? The part number and model aren't making it easy to find.

>>2950379
Sounds good. I live in an apartment now, so it is hard to use it, but I would with an extended black out to charge my power stations. Or lend it to my mom to run her fridge. So it should last a long time.
Anonymous No.2950479 [Report] >>2950480
I have that exact generator OP. Bought it after I lost power for 5 days after last years east coast Hurricane. Haven't done anything but break by running it for a few hours under load and doing an oil change. Pulled it back out last week and it started first pull.

Nice! Heard that some people were having trouble with it at first cause you fill the oil, run it and then it is turning off on them. They didn't know that the initial run caused the oil level to go down, causing the problem. You seemed to not have that problem thanks to the quick oil change. I think an NGK spark plug would make it even better. Someone else said replacing the oil fill with a magnetic one would also be a good upgrade to catch any metal particles.
Anonymous No.2950481 [Report]
>>2950480
Yeah, I replaced my oil fill with the magnetic one. I'll look into a NGK plug if it starts to act up.

But don't the seals and gaskets shrink?

I bought mine four years ago and never used it. But it was nice having some peace of mind back when power outages were actually a concern.

Never sold it but now I'm glad I didn't because I'm buying a home soon and may not have power immediately.
