Got a mechmaxx lift that I'm using in a theatrical production, it rises at a perfect speed, but I'm wondering if there's a way to speed up the descent speed?

Maybe. Mark them well so you can put them back exactly how they were and then mess with them and report results. Put a block under the table so you can't crush yourself if something goes horribly wrong while fiddling with the plugs.
