It's a pretty old thing, and you have to understand it in the context of back then.
There wasn't anything funny at the start, the "humor" of it was just people escalating the absurdity of the suggestions increasingly.
Threads like that were quite common back then on 4chan in general.
If you don't get why that's funny or entertaining, keep in mind that this is the kind of stuff that those "4chan used to be soooooo much better" oldfags are talking about. They're just blinded by nostalgia.
