Its a shit lift. Inefficiently works out the tiniest muscles. If you want delt gains youre better off doing frontal raises and lateral raises.

what if i do OHP after lat raises?
Anonymous No.76266752 [Report]
>>76266717
Or do incline at 45° and you'll hit front delts and a good amount of upper pecs. lat raises should be done after compounds.

Anonymous No.76266762 [Report]
>>76266755
Its ok to have fun inefficient lifts. I like doing muscle ups but anyone would tell you dips and pull ups are better for training. Which is also why I do sets of dips and pull ups.

Just remember to supplement bad lifts that are fun with good lifts thay actually train muscles

The most jacked guy at my gym who deadlifts 6 plates for reps, and had boulder shoulders…. He only OHP’s 40kg (0.5 plate)

I was shocked to see how much stronger I am at OHP than he is considering how much bigger his shoulders are overall strength is compared to me

There’s also another jacked guy at my gym who never does OHP, he built his big delts off incline presses and pulls like pull-ups and rows

Both of them do lateral raises though

I can OHP 1 plate for 10 and I think it’s overrated
Anonymous No.76266803 [Report] >>76266847 >>76268446

no
there's pretty much a 1:1 carryover between ohp and strict hspu on rings or parralletes
hence I'm asking if an ohp of bw in plates is good without ever touching weights

your lying and full of shit. 6 plates for reps and being unable to rep 1 plate ohp is unheard of.
Anonymous No.76266908 [Report]
You can say what you want about OHP but it's not inefficient. I had ZERO (0) front delt development before I started doing it. No amount of front raises will do what OHP does. Plus it's really fun.

barbell ohp isn't great for building delts. single arm ohp is, and it's actually better for increasing your barbell ohp. do both.

try seated (or slight incline) OHP in the smith machine, do core work, and work on form.
i stalled at 130lbs on ohp for a long ass time and had to do a bunch more isolations to make any progress on the compound

Go try an actual OHP instead of speculating. You won't be able to do 1 plate.

true, single arm is based because its a natural movement of lifting something above you
strict barbell ohp is retarded because you're fixing all your joints so you can hold and lift the barbell, can work for some, will likely fuck shit up for many

You have to do that to mog though. Single arm for training, barbell for combat.

Mp shove your elbows in and curl in to isolate delts like a genie, you can just do some lighter sets more often now and get 0 tendon wear. You can go heavier incline bench and even focus delts on that or flat, mid delts i like btb and db shoulder press, machines dont fit me well for wide grip.

i know this is bait and all, but i was actually surprised, earlier today i learnt that the delts are actually the biggest muscle in the upper body! i thought id be the traps or something

Press more. Of the four main barbell lifts, overhead press is the most dependent on technique. Submaximal weight for more reps three days out of seven (50 percent 1RM for 3x8 or something like that), one the day after you go heavy. Also, overhead press is predominately a core exercise when the weight on the bar gets heavy. You'll feel it in your quads.

I thought you said push press but as a compound movement theres a lot of room to use your whole body in any upoer body lift but imo to increase it you wanna hit weird angles and do power on the military press since you can use the back rest or not for more core work.

In my experience it responds well to the texas method + dirty bulk. Heavy all-out set on monday with 3 sets of heavy tricep extensions/pushdowns for assistance work, heavy 5x5 on wednesday, easy-ish weighted dips on friday. If you do more than 5 reps on monday, increase the weight next week. Increase wednesday weight as you see fit. Take every 4th week off. Once you notice the progress slowing down, switch to triples for the monday set.
This took my OHP max from 75kg to 90kg. Low weight high rep doesn't work for me, only going heavy does. If you're afraid of gaining fat do something else.

You're supposed to go heavy. When you can lift 40lbs on each hand you'll get massive cannonball delts

There's absolutely no way a grown man who can hspu can't ohp 1pl8. Even a lean short man will weigh at least 1pl8 and hspu is harder in terms of stabilization than ohp.
