/fat/ - Fat Loss General
>Who is /fat/ for?
For fast-food fanatics working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

Just drop carbs and sugar, i lost 13 kgs by doing that and boxing. And when i mean just carbs and sugar, i mean it. I didnt even prohibit myself from eating fast food, i would regularly eat at those places but would just order water and a shitton of chicken nuggets, no fries nor sauces of course. My regular day diet would be vegetables + all the burgers i wanted with cheddar cheese.

And that shit actually did wonders, just cut sugar and you will start losing weight, and carbs to the mix and some boxing and you will absolutely see results in 2 months.

>You need 1g of protein per lbs of body weight a day

Is this a meme? How the fuck am I supposed to hit this macro when I'm cutting to 1500 calories a day and weigh 215 lbs?

If I ate nothing but basedbeans, which has the highest amount of protein per any legume, for all my calories per day I'd only hit about 150g of protein.

Surely this is a meme macro idea? For sure its gotta be almost impossible when cutting.

I dun goofd. I looked it up it's a lot simpler and easier to hit than this.

0,8g/kg of body weight

So for my 215 lbs self that's 78g. That makes more sense.

That other measurement is from Mike Israetel, totally bogus.

The science is actually quite muddled because the body doesnt actually really have much of a mechanism for storage of protein. Its why bodybuilders eat 5x a day.
I think probably keeping the stomach supplied with protein throughout the day is more important than 1g per lb

I lost 9kg(20 lbs) but my weight loss has been stalling for the past 3 weeks.
The issue i have is- whenever i come close to my minimum with the idea that the next day i should surpass that minimum- no matter how little i eat that day my weight in the afternoon balloons up to 1.5kg over my morning weight. Like, i eat 2 plates of super low calorie meal like green bean stew and it still happens. Now i understand thats water weight but and im not actually gaining fat but im not losing it either so im basically at same weight +- 1kg for the last 3 weeks

But I want to do something else, I'm stuck at home for many hours due to my job and I feel like I could exercise a bit more even if it just to get my heartrate going and prevent some muscle loss from fat loss.
Is there any extremely basic routine I can do with just a bench and some dumbbells? I was thinking about doing squats, presses (overhead and bench), some rows and maybe curls for my spaghetti arms, just 3 times a week.
Is that OK? I know it's not a proper routine, I know it's not gonna replace a gym, but it's better than doing absolutely nothing, right? Am I fucking myself in any way if I do this?

I can't fucking believe it, I'm just 11 pounds away from that big 200 milestone. It's a few days from seven months since I started trying to lose weight in earnest. It doesn't feel real, man. And yet here I am getting ready to buy some 36" pants in the next two weeks or so because now even my 40" pants are too loose even with a belt. At the rate things are going, I very well could be under the 200 mark by the end of July. That's the leanest I'll have been in ten years when I was 198.

Even then, I'll want to keep going down, probably around the 175-180 range, that would put me at the same weight I was in my college days fifteen years ago.

I couldn't even commit to my calorie goals for a fucking day.

I'm 340 (I was 334 last I came in here, two weeks ago, counted for a day and fucked up counting more, came back heavier than before) my calorie cut's supposed to be 2000 calories (someone said it needed to be 1500, ain't no fucking way that's happening)

Got up, made eggs and a bowl of peas with butter and a mandarin, drank calorie chocolate thing, 572. Went to doordash, brought a snack pack to keep myself fed on the road from 9 to 5, (15 salted cashews, cheese stick, another mandarin, 300 calories, ate it at noon), there was a cookie in the car so I snacked on that as I went, another 300 go home for a bit because face is flushed red and I'm feeling hungry, pound down water and another chocolate drink, another 150 calories so we're at 1322 and I finished and I was fucking cramping from my sciatica all day from how the fat shoves into my legs and I just...

Drove to a korean chicken place, got an eight wing set of onions garlic, drove to a gas station, two body armors and a pack of charleston chew minis, and inhaled three wings and a third of the chews and a bit of the drink before I was even home. Each wing looking it up was 141 calories, the charlestons were 130 and the body armor's not done but I'm not just leaving it so that's 190.

Even if I stop now, I'm at 2062. And I know me, I won't. If not the chicken I'll graze on some other shit in the house before I go to bed and I'll justify it with 'well I already failed so who cares'. I fail everything. I failed college, I failed my job, I failed drawing and WoW, I just fail and fail and fail and I want to cut my body open and rip this fat out and die from it to repent i hate myself I hate my shitty useless will I can't say no and I know the only things that will keep me out of this depressive funk I just dropped into is to eat the food and not care or do drugs

Look at it this way: you only made ONE mistake. That fucking car cookie, 300 calories for nothing. You had a 300 calories "lunch" (that's not a lunch, but I'll humour you) and then you decided to snack on a cookie you found in your car that was the exact same amount of calories as a whole meal.
So your whole day wasn't shit, you just made ONE SINGLE MISTAKE that put you over your calorie limit. It's not that bad anon, it's one mistake.
Can you try not to make that one single mistake tomorrow? Just one. Whenever you're about to eat some shit like a cookie or a fucking venti frapuccino or whatever, stop and say "No, this is the ONE mistake" and don't eat it.
It's just one thing.

Everything past five was a mistake
The chicken wings, the candy, the sports drinks, I shouldn't have bought any of it. I should have gone home, made more eggs, made a potato and drank glasses of milk until I was at my limit. And now I'm another three wings and 420 calories over that.

No matter how much I scream and hit myself right now, no matter how much my head hurts right now, I'll forget it all tomorrow and buy some other fucking shit

The mistake was not killing myself. I need to kill myself. I want to kill myself. I NEED to be dead, I am a drain on EVERYONE around me everywhere I go but I CAN"T EVEN FUCKING DO TAHT.

I'm a habitual grazer too, eating all day like this is how I fail. I had to switch to OMAD. If I let myself eat at any time of the day I just eat all day, little bit here, little bit there, and I'm never satisfied, I'm always hungry and always eating and invariably blow past my calorie goals by the end of the day.

I fasted for a few days and it broke the cravings, then I switched to OMAD and that's been working for me. I eat meal of about 450g of lean protein and 1200g of cruciferous vegetables equaling about 1500 calories and I'm stuffed by the end.

I find its hell of a lot easier to just not eat anything most of the day, eat one big meal until I'm stuffed, than it is to control what I'm eating all day. Small meals just make me hungry and increase the chances I'm going to overeat.

eating restaurant food will not help you lose weight. you've got to make food and home and take it with you for when you're working so you don't eat food that will make you gain weight instead.

but it's really no big deal. one day over your limit is not going to make any difference. it's all about making new habits that lead to incremental fat loss over a long period of time. it's not about starving yourself or even feeling hungry. you can lose fat without feeling awful all the time.

I haven't been able to get hired by much or hold jobs for long. I get panic attacks (I know dreamworks have made them a meme but I have regular periods of intense chest pain, pins and needles on the body, this rising dread of imminent death, often go to the ER because fat as fatass maybe it's a heart attack, and then ooh wow heart rate normal, ekg says nothing) and I've had a string of firings from larger companies from missing work for having them so bad my legs would lock up. It's mostly from poor customer interaction, and a self-fulfilling fear of getting more. Eventually I miss too many days and I'm fired. What calms it down is listening to music and taking time to myself (and stress eating but we're trying to stop that), and courier work like doordash lets me have both.

Doctor also gave me this hydroxyzine 25mg to take if they spike but that fucks the day with me needing to go home to sleep so I usually just try and power through them. I haven't had a lot of attacks driving though, having some music to headspace out of the stress of larger things really helps.

Some of these are pretty low impact too, like marching in place and arm circles, and will feel like a waste of time very quickly. I won't tell you to cut it right away but I'll say that you should keep doing what works for you and consider dropping or replacing the stuff that doesn't work over time. I was doing really good for 3 weeks and I'm not even that fat, like 15% bf trying to reach 10%, slipped on the diet on Tuesday and just got hit with extreme regret and depression, then binge ate on Wednesday again, what triggered it was probably just boredom but I was also doing a low carb diet with little to no sugar in it, yes it worked but I feel like there's only so much resilience the brain can afford to have, I'm also lifting 5-6x a week for almost 3 years now.
I guess my deficit was too high aswell I probably should take a more slow approach that doesn't make me feel like a zombie for the whole day.

I only have a pair of light dumbbells and some thin resistance bands, but I'm also really weak due to never having been physically active and a ham planet. I'm eating at a 500-600kcal deficit now with plenty of protein.
A:
1. Goblet squat
2. Dumbbell RDL
3. Overhead press
4. Resistance band / dumbbell chest press
5. Lateral dumbbell raises
6. Lying / seated leg raises
7. Incline plank
B:
1. Chair squats

4. Hammer / bicep curl

listen fren you need to just stop eating.
just. stop. eating.
look I don't know about you but here's a bit of advice on how I dealt with my own problems (still dealing, I haven't "made it" yet either but I'm not making as many mistakes anymore):
>embrace the pain
see my problem was that I was too pussy to embrace the pain. I always wanted something to provide succor, whether it's cannabis or masturbation or sugar free this or that to help me deal with the hunger pangs and the cravings. you WILL feel hunger, it WILL be uncomfortable, but it WILL pass. you WILL experience cravings but you DON'T have to give into them. just accept it and prepare yourself mentally for it.
>are you sure this is what you want?
decide if being thin and all the benefits that come along with it are worth the pain you'll endure for the privilege of meeting that goal. I just talked about hunger and cravings; are you willing to deal with it? if not, then go on then. stuff your face. have the pizzas and candies and burgers, and all the things you enjoy that get you the dopamine hit you want so badly. who's stopping you? who cares? we're all going to die anyway, might as well enjoy it while you're here. if you have some external motivation (i.e. you're gonna lose your job because you're a fatty or something) then maybe that will provide enough impetus for you to do something about it.
>set realistic goals, but don't cry if you don't meet them
see, if you want to do a 14 day fast, but all you've ever done is 3 days at most, then you're biting off more than you can chew. start smaller and work your way up. do rolling 48s back to back and see how that works for you. if that's too hard then do rolling 36s. if you can't even consistently go without food for 16 hours, then you need to start as small as possible. hell, do rolling 12s until you get comfortable with not eating. if you fail, then dust yourself off and try again. back to the drawing board. NEVER BE GAME OVER.

I am really just trying to cut down on weight so I don't look so fucking disgusting and though I don't feel 200 or 190 is going to be where I want to end, it does seem like I would be a lot smaller and fit in a lot of my older clothes. lmk what you fellas think.

You can already start working out at home if you don't have a gym membership yet, even bodyweight stuff can make a noticeable difference over time, especially if you're untrained, and give you a headstart for when you do start gymcelling. You don't necessarily need to go that hard on the protein either, considering on average you're putting on mere grams of muscle per day when you're exercising

95lbs in ~28 weeks is a heroic effort, obviously don't stop now if you have the moment but realize that at some point you may need a break to recalibrate.
5'10 150lbs is a decent target, but unfortunately you may have a lot of loose skin, google/reddit for advice (there are creams you can get to help, start them ASAP) but you may need surgery to get rid of it. You look young though so maybe some fasting + years will help out as well.
>ab workouts
The answer is the hanging leg raise, cable crunch, and those ab crunch machines that boomers love. But again your loose skin is likely going to be a problem, not a lack of ab muscles.

I take collagen peptides, get Vitamin C, and use retinol cream. 95 pounds lost and no loose skin so far.

I'm not so ignorant I expect no loose skin, but judging by my current status, I imagine at worst it'll minor enough to fill in with muscle eventually. Or maybe a mini tucks at absolute worst.

Hi guys.
I'm an office worker that lives in the city.
I'm 5'9" and at my last physical (like 3 years ago) I was 380lbs. My friends say I look a bit smaller since then so I'm not 100% sure on my current weight.
We have a gym in the building that I've never gone to.
How should a salaryman at my size get started?

I don't know what joint pain would have to do with being calorie deficient.

But yeah counting calories to make sure you have enough, following a regimen is effective in a weight loss plan.

When it comes to lifting what is optimal routine for a home gym without anything besides dumbells a barbell and a bench?

I'm not, but I figured out why. I'm using an overnight oat brand that is basically just like instant oats. It makes digestion way faster and spikes my blood sugar.

Use collagen supplement, its a good idea anyways if you dont eat much cartilage
If you have joint pain while supplementing its not the diets fault

Yeah, I just don't know that there's any particular workout plan that would be tailored to losing weight. Generally all there is to be said is that exercise spends calories and the bigger the muscles you have the more calories you burn daily.

I'll let others chime in if such a precise tailored plan even exists.

Hello /fat/ i don't know where to ask this question and this seemed like the most appropriate place so i'll ask here.

i'm 6'5 and weigh 287 pounds but i like beer too much to want to cut it, but i don't want to keep being flabby so i figured i'd try and go for a "bear mode" physique around 20-25% body fat so i can still eat a good amount while having a drink but i'd at least be muscular and healthy, while i do love beer and drink it often i don't drink it to get drunk, i'll usually have it with a meal or i'll crack open a can after work and relax as to mitigate damage to my liver.

what workout plan should i do to achieve this?
for reference i used to weigh 360 but i've plateaued at around 280-290 cause of my habits, i figure at this point instead of continuing this route i might as well be a bear.

thank you in advance for any tips or references that you guys decide to share.

you need to make the room in your deficit by running a tight deficit and doing cardio
alcohol is quite calorically dense plus it reduces your inhibitions whichll make you give in to cravings

I'm 6'4 and still over 20% bodyfat at 210, so you still need a lot of cutting to do that workouts won't fix. But don't count yourself out of being thin, the desire becomes stronger as you get closer to the finish line

Self discipline is something you train over time by making good choices. Every time you do something you don't want to do, or don't do something you want to do, is improving self discipline.
The easiest thing you can do though is remove temptations. Get rid of any snacks in your house. When you go grocery shopping don't buy crap. Delete ubereats or stop going to fast food places. Learn how to enjoy food that is both filling and lower in calories, instead of foods that are non-filling and high in calories.
