>>76302323 (OP)there are a lot of misconceptions about the middle ages and the renaissance. serfs actually had a pretty good deal and weren't slaves. "they belonged to the land" which meant that they were never homeless. there were laws that they had to be taken care of and there were many holidays all throughout the year where there was no work and fun things to do in town. they married young and had lots of children.
if you compare the wages that people made and the guarantees that their society provided them, you might find that serfs and indentured servants actually got a better deal than modern workers. we are living in a timeline where we're worse off despite all the advances in technology. all of the benefits have accumulated at the top, we no longer live in homogeneous high-trust societies, we have no guarantee of children, homes, or income. often, you're just one missed paycheck away from destitution.
look up the root of the word 'boon' and research the economics of the periods after the black death for some real crazy facts. labor was actually worth something back then. even before the plague, though, things were good.
all the media out there that makes the middle ages and the renaissance seem dirty or backward is just propaganda. it was actually a high point of western civilization.
