For some reason, most media companies these days think that buying an IP is basically like buying serfs. Like there's some fandom or audience tied to the IP like serfs are tied to the land and they have to serve you and consume all your products no matter what so long as you hold their IP, freeing you up to go for some kind of wider audience and ignore them almost entirely. And then they're bewildered every time that turns out to not be true no matter how many times the failure is repeated.

anyone that has full control over the product of their agriculture labor makes enough food for themselves and maybe a little to bring to market, aka subsistence farming. civilization needs more than subsistence farming and so every civilization has to force people to work the fields.

give any illegal the option to work in an air conditioned office and they would, its a job you take when you have no other options. no one will voluntarily work farm labor for a wage that would be profitable.
every civilization is forced with this problem. seeing people's solution here is just as laughable as communists who think they'll be poets after the socialist revolution and someone else will be working hard farm labor on the commune. in the whites only utopia I'll be a based shitposter, some other white will be picking my food on a 100 degree june day.

Someone needs to make a slave simulator where your village gets ran over by bandits who steal your entire livelyhood and everything you and your ancestors have worked for and sell you into slavery, where you are forced to do hard, repetetive menial labour all day and only get moldy leftovers and filthy water to eat and drink, have to sleep in a shoddy slave shack on a pile of moldy straw and wear filthy tattered rags. And if you do not comply or slack off working, they beat you senseless over and over again and starve you until you will comply. This would go on or months until, at the end, you finally collapse from growing sickly and weak due to your horrible living conditions and the slavers just dump your rotting corpse in a ditch.
I feel like this would be a good idea for an immersive video game.
