You're viewing it too black and white (funnily enough). It's not supposed to be a blind hatred of other cultures, but an increased wariness based on known stereotypes. Outside of said negative traits, the culture can (and often does) have aspects superior to ours, which you should learn from and use to improve our own culture. This is known as advanced racism.
The issue with leftists is they only look at the positive traits because they hate their own people and culture. Extreme right does this in reverse, failing to see some of the positive aspects. As always, everything is best in moderation, especially racism.
