cycling
literally all you need in terms of cardio is an old road bike and some hills

bike manufacturers have memed 40 y/o into buying lycra and fancy carbon bikes so they can larp like they are part of the peleton
and the pro cyclists are like the pro runners - all skinny for max efficiency, but that doesnt mean you shouldnt train to do a 20min 5k, biking is the same

reality is climbing out of the saddle is kino, and the most fum cardio

The real optimal strategy is to commute with a bicycle, that way you waste zero time on commute because it becomes your cardio time. I get 30 minutes of cycling in a day 5 days a week at least (10 each way plus i work a job that requires me to get places daily) and don't do it in my leisure time, leisure time is for swimming.
>but i get sweaty
You can go at a gvery relaxed pace to work, then up intensity when going back home.
>commute too long my workplace is in another dimension i am entirely dependent on a car to exist
You made poor life choices.

Any bike recommendations? I need something for just getting around, but also want to be able to go up the mountain and along the trails near me for fun. Maybe ride up there and chill with a book under a tree.

Was thinking a hybrid, since it would be better on roads than a mountain bike. Budget of around £700?

I got a nice gravel bike. Two weekends ago, I went for a 44 mile ride, but must have run something over and popped my back tire 5 miles from home. Managed to ride it home though.

This past weekend, popped my front one 15 miles from home. Didn’t even run into something. Just a small pin sized hole on the side of my inner tube let out all the air. Had to sos call pops for a ride.

I can run for 4 hours and not once have I ever got a flat foot. Fuck this gear-dependent form of exercise. After my tri in August I’m back to 95% roons.

Hip flexors have seen some righteous gains this summer though.

I had my rear inner tube changed, but had my front set up tubeless. Am I retarded?

Could but didn’t. Got home and ran a 47min 10k (no bike on shoulders). Tires were around 70psi out of a max of 87. Was thinking I’d go for 60psi next time.

Just the cheapest shit you can find, get a saddle bag. Anything over 20 miles in a single direction you should probably be prepared for. As for a race, depends if they have any support there or not, though more likely just end in a DNF. If you are using a gravel commuter on paved roads you probably need new tires 70psi is very low for a road tire.

i ride my road bike a decent amount every year, usually in the 2500 mile range. i dont do mountain biking and pretty much only ride for commuting/transportation purposes, never do races or group rides, just bike in my shorts and shirt, sneakers, usually wear a backpack or my rack bag. i can hold a somewhat decent speed, usually the 15-18 mph range, can get 21-22 mph on some sprints on flat ground. i ride up a pretty big hill every day but i havent noticed myself improving anything after years doing it

all the people talking about not riding because theyre afraid of cars, i pretty much exclusively ride on streets with cars and i guess ive been "lucky" in the sense that despite all this riding for almost 10 years ive never been hit. there have been close situations but ive avoided anything bad.

My weekly mileage is typically 50-60 miles (daily weekday morning rides), but much more if I'm doing a big gravel ride on a weekend. I've been cycling for fitness for 6 years, mountain biking on and off my whole life. I ride pavement on my old steel 26" MTB, never ever owned a road bike and I don't care to. Lycra is for racers and LARPers. The best advice I can give you is to get a cadence sensor and try to keep your cadence consistent and moderately high, regardless of your gearing.

it's lightweight athletic wear, the shirts have pockets on the back to put your phone and wallet in so you don't need to bring a bag, and the pants have padding in them so you don't crush your balls, also prevents chaffing

as far as biking vs rooning is concerned, biking is way better than running when it's really hot out in the summer, running is much better when you're back down to temperate fall and spring weather, biking in the winter is fucked whereas you can still run even with snow on the ground
if you come in this thread and talk about using an exercise bike at the gym you're just a faggot
Anonymous No.76417594 >>76417658

Reasonable take on biking vs running. However the lycra and other cycling clothing is overkill, and 99% of the overweight and slow cyclists I see don't need it. They're just trying to look like a 'cyclist'. Unless you're racing or doing a century or something, normal synthetic and form-fitting athletic wear does 100% of the same job. And padded pants only compensates for an ill-fitting seat or bike. If someone is properly fitted for their bike and has a seat that fits their ass, they don't need padding at all.
