Is 30 mins of cardio per day even worth doing for weight loss? Would I see much results doing it for so little?
My wife's friend is a yoga teacher and she said don't even bother if it's for 30 mins.

1. eat less
2. move more.
3. keep decreasing one and increasing the other until you start losing weight.
4. maintain this until you have lost the desired amount of weight.
0.5kg per week is a good target. it really is that simple.

If you burn 200 calories in those 30 minutes, and you do it five times a week, in one month you have burnt just over half a kilo of fat.

In a few months you will be noticeably leaner

If you're going at a pretty good intensity, you can burn like 200 or 300 calories in just 30 minutes. Let's say you burn 250 calories and you have a deficit of 500 calories. That's an extra half a pound a week. If you're asking if it's worth it, only you can decide that for yourself. Personally, if it only takes a half hour and you lose an extra half pound a week, I'd say that's pretty low effort for a huge gain.
Anonymous No.76461559 >>76461563

You have to be careful of going starvation mode. If you have too great a calorie deficit the body will lose weight but it will be in panic mode and try to keep a hold of it's fat reserves. Desirable things like muscle will be sacrificed. As per the wiki. 10-12x body-weight (in lbs) is the calorie target.

If you didn't train a form of cardio before you started cutting you're pretty much stuck with low impact low intensity cardio.
>why low impact?
Because you won't be able to recover adequately from hard cardio for 30 minutes on a deficit.
>why low intensity?
Because you'll burn out doing anything more serious or overeat or give yourself insomnia and there's few things worse than not sleeping and being hungry together.

If you wanted to burn 400-500 kcal in a half hour you should have picked up running six months before you started to cut. The good thing though about low intensity is there's pretty much no upper limit to it. You can walk or bike sunrise to sunset and be okay to do it tomorrow too.

In summation if you want 500 kcal more to work with do 500 kcal more work to hell with the clock. Your means are restricted right now but that's not say they have to be in the future.

30 minutes a day is 3 hours and 30 minutes a week. Of course it matters.

A failure by who's standards? Your happiness can never come from external sources and thus your standards should not. Happiness always has and always will be an internal thing. A wife would annoy you because you would be in a constant battle of wills, kids would drain your time and finances. There is always some negative to the situation you are in. You are free, which can't be said of the hypothetical man that is chained to a wife, kids and thus job. Is your situation better than the man with a family? Only you can decide that. One of the unfortunate side effects of modernity is that we forgot things we solved hundreds/thousands of years ago.

By my standards. Sure, I have lots of free time and lots of (solitary) hobbies, but I feel lonely and alienated. No special bond with the ones you love, no one to try and raise into good adults, nothing to pass on to the future generation, etc.

The implications of doing cardio for weightloss when cardio was not a big part of your life before weightloss. Fatties never think about cardio unless they want to lose weight, otherwise they probably wouldn't be fatties. So the goal for them should be a sustainable habit based on something more tangible like an amount of calories not a specific amount of time it takes.

30 mins is better than nothing, but it is more important that you get your diet dialed in. can you really not do any more than 30 minutes, even if it isn't every day? just remember that you probably burn fewer calories than you think while running.

Doing 30 mins of cardio after lifting pushed me into caloric deficit. Without cardio I wouldnt be losing weight right now. I also had really bad cardio for years, so much that it would make leg day take forever because id spend a ton of time catching my breath in between sets. Doing 30 mins of cardio after my lift allowed me to shorten my lifts by about 20 minutes or so because Im just not winded by anything for very long. I had a resting heart rate of anywhere from 90-110 and now its 60-65. If you arent doing cardio right now you would have an absolutely massive improvement in cardio performance in a couple months by just doing 30 mins 5 times a week and if you push hard you can easily burn over 400 calories in 30 mins. If you ate a maintenance and did nothing but cardio at this intensity you could lose a few lbs a month. 30 mins of cardio is a powerful tool for weight loss.

>don't even bother if it's for 30 mins.
Because that's too long? Cardio is good for you but most people hit diminishing returns pretty quick, and the difference between a zero-minute run and a 15-minute one is way bigger than between 15 and 30. If a half hour of treadmill feels good enough you can do it regularly, go for it; if it's only ten minutes, you're still getting most of the benefit. Depending on your weight and the type of cardio you're doing, long sessions might be doing more harm than good- the last thing you want to do is blow out your knees.
Try to take little walks after meals and maybe slot in some HIIT on top of your regular moderate cardio of choice. Or even supplement with some yoga, though maybe through a different teacher. Improving your diet will do more than any exercise, though, if losing weight is the goal.

30 minutes of intervals, not even HIIT, mind you, gives you the benefit of altering your heart rate and making it easier to switch gears, which is actually what most people need to be able to cope with stress. Cope with stress better? Less impulsive eating and lower cortisol. Yoga teachers are mostly frauds anyway.
