/fat/ - Fat Loss General
>Who is /fat/ for?
For successful snackers working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

One week and it's been godlike already. I've just started on it but every day I wake up and go to bed feeling SOLID. Zero side effects. No growling in my stomach at 5pm even if I ate. No desire whatsoever to snack or drink. I take breakfast and then dinner, and my portions are nearly halved because I'm sated easily. It's so nice to be on autopilot without struggling.

Yeah, similar experience. I'm coming to the end of Week 2 myself.

No desire to snack or eat crap. Still get to enjoy a cheeky energy drink, and I've got my diet down to eating for nutrition rather than hunger. It's been a pretty great experience. And I feel like the stabilization of my blood sugar has lead to just a consistent feeling of "Pretty good".
Side effects for me have been pretty mild. Minor digestive stuff, so I avoid anything too fatty (Which I want to do anyway) and a bit of heartburn if I drink anything carbonated (Which I avoid anyway).

It's kinda great, honestly. And I feel like for as long as this feeling continues, I can do this forever, but I do need to learn some better protein rich recipes. A little concerned about the price though. Hoping I can stay on a lower dose and not get hit too badly with the recent price raise.

2.5 has worked fine. So, I'm not really sure why I'd need to increase to 5.

Ok freaks gimme the reasoning behind this shit. Start at 220 lbs ~25%BF at 35yrs 6ft 3 and plan on cutting. Doing aggressive cut and lifting along with it, cardio on upper body and rest days. Do the math online and it says something like 2800kcal is my TDEE so aggressive cut is 2000kcal. For about 3 weeks I do 2000, lose barely anything. I'm logging literally every calorie, be it some 5kcal topping even. I say ok, maybe my TDEE is actually lower than online says, let me drop it to 1600kcal/day. Start to actually lose weight. This goes on for about a month, im down to ~210lbs.
I wanted an aggressive cut. So I changed it to 1400kcal per day. Not a lot I know, but 1 pound loss a week or whatever is not good enough, especially if I originally wrote in all my measurements and activity and it says I should be eating 1900 per day to lose 1.5lb per week.
So *now* on 1400 per day I'm finally losing 1.5lbs per week. My job is standing/walking 5 hours, sitting for 3, and like I said, cardio plus lifting regularly.
So how is it that I have to make up my own numbers when all these online calculators tell me you need to eat big to lose big?
Btw I'm 4.5 months in, have lost 35-40lbs. Its hard to measure exactly when the scale bounces back and forth every day.
Lifts are pretty fucking small, 1400kcal is not a lot. At least I can do 6 actual pull-ups at 180lbs

It didn't hurt then, I was just horribly tired and out of breath, I took it easier on the next ones and it felt fucking amazing. It only started to hurt in the evening on tuesday and hasn't quite gone yet, probably would be worse if I hadn't waited until I lost weight to give it a try. Kinda mad and sad. I want to do that couch to 5K thing at a minimum.

You guys always say do incline walks and I did, but you didn’t say what incline and what speed to do. Well I found one that works for me. Massive heart rate and therefore tons of calories burned. 3 mph, relatively slow, but 12 degree incline. Basically a slow walk up a long, gradual hill. Shot my heart to 145 bpm quick. Before I was doing 4 degrees 4.5 mph getting nowhere.

I have naturally settled into about 1200kcal a day, with my orginal goal being less that 1700. I started having my 556kcal breakfast shake a little later and it holds me through until 5:30 or so when I can have a filling supper of meat and potatoes. You can cram a surprising ammount of butter onto those potatoes. When I have to take breakfast early, I can have a can of fish for an extra 160kcal to get me through, guilt free.

I work at a TESCO Distribution Centre. My calorie burn entirely depends on what task I'll be given for the shift. If my crew (Kestrels) doesn't have priority for loading then it's an entire day spent on picking. Picking involves marching at 4km/h in +1°C for 7¬11h (depends if overtime is approved) while constantly bending over a pallet to pick up boxes and put them in cages. If I'm doing this all day then I can easily count on 4k+ calorie burn by the end of it. The extra 2k on 26/07, 04/08 and 20/08 came from assembling IKEA furniture before going to work. That's what happens if I have a nice busy day with work cut out for me =]

Normally however I do 3 to 4h of pick before I'm called over for loading because Falcons (crews doing the opposite day shift) lost most of their experienced loaders after they've been given severence packages. If my crew has priority for Loading then I'm called over straight away. Loading involves driving around a LLOP all day and picking up 4 filled cages at a time and strapping them inside a trailer. Doing that all day results in 3k¬3.5k calorie burn.

It's funny when I think about it because there used to be a time when I dread spending entire day on pic but now I lowkey hope for it =]

How do you even calculate calorie burn? Your exercise level is already included in your TDEE. Of course you could start from BMR but then you would have to add everything that isn't you laying comatose in bed.
Where goes the line in what is part of your TDEE and what is extra?

it takes years to lose fat cells. When you scale weight changes the cells are shrinking and ejecting energy. In general you body will fill the cells back up instead of making new fat cells.

If it was on the gut before, it is going right back there.

>>76537315
you don't bother. Pick a TDEE and move on from there. Everyone who starts this is going to lose 2-5 lbs of water to start anyways.

If you picked a TDEE that is too high then your weight won't change, too low then you will have issues with brain fog and energy. You have to do this at least every three months anyways because you three months from now should weight 24 pounds less.

Everyone who cares enough to count accurately does this, if you don't care that much then just go ahead and use the cooked weight. All that will happen is you will assume that your TDEE is lower than what it actually is since you will be losing less than you should because you're under logging.

>I'm going to cook exactly one chicken breast for tonight's meal.
Why would that be necessary? If you want to food prep you can weigh them all at once.

Why are people dead-set on overcomplicating all of this? Just log what you eat. If you're still gaining weight, eat less.
