He staked his claim on his intelligence and his PhD. For a while he was just being a nerd on YouTube and hawking his weird high volume program. He was definitely on steroids throughout, and his gains primarily relied on that—not his program.

But everything was fine until he decided to compete for his pro card, upped his steroids, and started talking smack. He said he was smarter than every single coach, had an IQ higher than 160, and was bigger than Mike Mentzer. When you talk smack like this, people start to hit back. Shit got real recently when some uber-nerd downloaded and reviewed his PhD dissertation, and it turned out to be pretty retarded and riddled with amateurish errors and typos. He defended himself by lying and saying the dissertation provided by the university online was actually a rough draft. Then he walked back this lie when he realized that this sounds even more retarded.

All of the above, combined with the ridiculous surgery and utter failure at body building makes me conclude he deserves it.

Yes and no.
He's an annoying prick, definitely may be a narcissistic asshole but it's hard to tell what's entertainment persona and what's real.
He definitely got his PhD from a budget university and he overplays the importance of that. While he is more well read than a lot of people in the space, he falls into a common pitfall that a lot of online personalities similar to him do where he makes conclusions or suggestions based on logical inferences that he assumes have some weight because he's 'smart'. But when you read between the lines the core stuff he advises is pretty reasonable and far from the worse exercise advice.

A lot of the criticism about him that is sticking is very nitpicky stuff that isn't even consistent with their own opinions that they're projecting onto him rather than what he's saying. Example:

His explosion happened within the past year as tiktok and instagram science based lifters / content farms started repeating his content and opinions due to dunning-kruger. I read part of his thesis and it was shockingly bad. If I remember correctly, it was based on like one or two days of data collection? He basically got a small sample size to do some activities, made measurements and then wrote about it for what a few years? Not all theses are created equally and it is not always straightforward to equally assess quality/merit across fields, but his PhD was a joke. The fact that he waved it around as a credential is embarrassing and even though I can’t stand him I felt bad about him being outed because it would be humiliating and indefensible.

1) Dissertations are overweighted. One shitty dissertation is a big deal, but it's not everything. Do you really think one paper invalidates an entire 10 years' worth of learning? If that were the case, none of you retards would have ever finished high school. Especially for a PhD candidate, I'm not really surprised it's shit. It tends to be their first solo paper and it's at the end of a long ass academic journey in which that candidate is very likely really fucking tired of doing all that shit. I personally would do whatever the fuck is the minimum to get me out of there ASAP at that point.

I have a phd. I’m aware that sports science probably has lower standards than other programs. But even factoring that in, his thesis was bad. And it reflects poorly on his advisor, the committee and the entire department.

It’s clear that he has always taken the easy path in life. Doesn’t train hard—just takes steroids. Doesn’t want to actually use his brain—just uses the easiest path to a PhD possible. Doesn’t diet hard—just takes weight loss pills and gets lipo.

But this can only take you so far. He got delusional and thought he could go pro. Turns out these guys are working fucking hard and he couldn’t compete.

Your dissertation is your PhD. Let me repeat: your PhD = your dissertation. If your dissertation sucks, your PhD sucks. Period.

During the first 1-2 years you take classes at the masters level. For the remaining 3-5 years you write your dissertation, take electives and work in labs/teach to support yourself. You put your whole heart and soul into the dissertation. It is the thing that proves you know what you’re talking about. Most phds only have a dissertation to back their expertise. Very few go on to publish even more.

His dissertation looks like an undergrad honors student paper rough draft. As someone with a PhD myself, I was shocked when I saw Solomon’s video. I knew that a lot of departments push out shitty phds, but damn. This one was bad. It’s insulting that he is calling himself a doctor. I spent 60 hour weeks, month after month, perfecting my dissertation, and I still have imposter syndrome and don’t call myself a doctor. His PhD should actually be revoked in my opinion.

Telling people to leave two or three reps in the tank doesn't work unless they have some decent experience working with 1rm percentages and low reps. People will quit at like five plus reps away from failure. It's better to just tell people to push each set as hard as they reasonably can until getting another rep feels unlikely and that their last few reps should have the bar speed slow down considerably.
